I'm New and was wondering...

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone I'm currently downloading the ARMA II set and have a question about the DAYZ Mod. Firstly, what is Day Origins, Day Z Vanille and Day Z stand alone? which mod do i download? I'm pretty confused right now and would really appreciate it if someone could clear this up for me

DayZ Orgins is a mod for the DayZ mod. Vanilla just means the original game. DayZ standalone is the actual game that wouldn't require Arma as it would be its own game. The standalone date has yet to be announced.

Dayz origins can be downloaded through dayz commander located here http://www.dayzcommander.com/ under install/update tab loacted at the top right corner. Origins is another modded version of dayz itself. Vanilla servers can be located also using dayz commander once you have installed dayz using commander, these servers are based on the original format of dayz without additions. The dayz standalone has not been released yet and has no set release date. When it is available you will simply be able to download it through steam as its own game entirely. Also make sure you run both arma games prior to launching any versions of dayz. In addition to the ones you have inquired about there are additional map expansions located in dayz commander that you may download.

Which one would you recommend for a new player to play and which is the most funnest?

That's really a matter of taste. In my opinion you should start out with classic DayZ playing on the Chernarus map. That's what has made the game famous, all of the other additions are great when you want to mix things up a bit.

Before jumping in you should try some of the tutorials for Arma 2, they will help you get to grips with the basics of movement, and weapon handling. Because DayZ is based on a military simulator it's very different to many games you might have tried and takes some getting used to. You can even learn to fly the helis or try some sky-diving there if you want, it's good fun.

Its all really based on what you like. I would start with vanilla dayz to get acclimated to the layout of the mod itself, looting, surviving so on and so forth. Origins has additions that take a bit to get used to, NPC's and load of different mechanics to use so I would dive into that once you have spent a little time getting used to the mods mechanics.

Edit: Ninja'd I concur with Fraggy Babes
