Kcinnick 5 Posted June 20, 2013 I first want to start by saying I love the new patch. Everything about it makes it more challenging and refreshing. I have been playing DayZ for over a year now and for the first time in a very long time I feel like its a brand new game. However there is one part of the new patch that I find to be a step backwards. One of the great parts prior to 1.7.7 was the tents in DayZ. Hiding tents was an art before and if you were creative enough you could have camps hidden for days and months at a time OR find other players camps that otherwise would normally have been overlooked. However with the new patch the ability to hide loot is incredibly nerfed. I agree that a tent hidden inside the wall of a house or under a lot of trees is rather silly and not realistic. But it did add to gameplay aswell as reward players who enjoyed exploring the map to find others loot. I am afraid with the new tent system it will be avoided completely.
Blippy 26 Posted June 20, 2013 Like you said, since it's much harder to hide your tents, you're less likely to have incredibly secure loot. That makes the game more challenging and refreshing.
Rott (DayZ) 218 Posted June 20, 2013 not being able to hide a tent with any stealthiness does insure your going to have a bad time. Beans Sir.
icomrade 201 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) There are now stashes, which are dug with a sandbag + entrenching tool, stashes are extremely hard to find (so take good note of where you put it) since it's just a little mound of dirt. While, yes, tents may have been nerfed there is a far better option even if they were not. Edited June 20, 2013 by icomrade

Blippy 26 Posted June 20, 2013 1 gun/25 slots or 0 guns/15 slots compared to 10 guns/50 slots/4 backpacks is FAR from being a better optionThat's still enough to get a basic set of gear and tools after dying, and is much harder to find.
Skinwalker 31 Posted June 20, 2013 much harder to find, yes. a better option? i think it depends on the person and situation, youd have to place a lot more of them to make up for what you lose by not having a tent
taco241 393 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Less storage = more incentive to kee scavenging.Hopefully this will discourage people from building up a loot-cycled armory. Edited June 20, 2013 by taco241
Skinwalker 31 Posted June 21, 2013 loot cycling is no more. all it does is make me play 5x safer :(
m_mitchell 27 Posted June 21, 2013 Have you guys seen them? I mean I think they are just as easy to see because they are rather big and can only hold one gun? From their size they should be able to top what a tent can hold. I mean there is no telling how deep it does or even can go. They should be buffed to either being harder to see without the mound of dirt around it and with 5 guns or the current model with 10 guns.
casedistorted (DayZ) 2 Posted July 6, 2013 I agree, being able to place a tent underwater or someplace where it was only 1/4 visible rewarded players who were experienced and wanted to have some gear that was going to be safe (even in those kinds of places they were never 100 percent safe). This just makes it frusterating and makes you hold onto your tents you have placed pre 1.7.7 even more. I think this patch is very frusterating and it has added some good elements, but overall it has really ruined the feel of DayZ and has made me want to just stop playing :/
rn_max 202 Posted July 7, 2013 I'm still managing to pitch tents in a few concealed locations, but they take an awful lot of trial and error to place right, especially near trees.Haven't managed to try any stashes yet. Of my two regular characters, the public hive one has an e-tool and no sandbags found, the private hive one has sandbags and no e-tool found.I don't know about stashes, but it may be worth noting that tools take weapon slots in tents. If that is the case with stashes, they won't hold much of a start-up cache with one weapon slot.
Dayzo 182 Posted July 7, 2013 We found the same on the server I play on:hard to get loot + easy to lose loot = unbalanced gameplaySo the admin modified v1.7.7.1 to try to balance it out to reflect our personal taste. This includes allowing tents to be clipped into rock/buildings again (simulating the fact that in real life you would camouflage your tent into its surroundings pretty well), and increasing the medium stash to 15 items + 5 weapons + 2 bags.I respect what the devs are trying to do, and in the end they might get a brilliant balance so we can go back to vanilla. But in the meantime...
