buildings in SA

Recommended Posts

I hate posted "hey wouldn't this be a cool idea" topics in here, sif the devs aren't killing themselves as is. But I will anyway.

I don't like in the mod how these little out crops of houses are of almost no value, you can't enter them, they usualy have a few zeds lurking so they serve no real purpose. How about allowing players to use these buildings as loot stashes and be able to lock the door (locks would have to be items found in game). Perhaps random buildings would be locked and you would not know which ones were player stashes and which ones were spawned in locked. Locks could possibly be hacked off with an axe (maybe that would also destroy the axe?) and the noise would bring a swarm in on you. I dunno, I've always wanted to bust into a little building and find out the farmer who lives their had a stash of weapons hidden inside - would be cool to apply that theme to the SA and also make searching those little hidden outpots of building worthwhile

Having you pick a lock and being swarmed by zeds is like when eating and drinking attracted zeds, and also how refueling now attracts zeds. I dunno about you, but when I actually had to use a gas can to fuel up an ATV, it wasn't loud at all. The only sound was the liquid pouring in, and that wasn't loud enough to hear past 1 or 2 meters, when you'd already be in sight range for zeds in DayZ.

Even though that holds a slightly relevant point (to this thread in particular), I have to say that locking these houses would just be futile. First off, if a player could easily find their hatchet and break in, why would you stash things in there? A building stands out as to about, oh, I dunno, 5k of trees with a less than 1m LxW of a CAMOUFLAGED tent, or even the new dirt stashes that are in the game.

Honestly, having more of a chance to FIND guns such as hunting rifles or shotguns as most farmers would have would be great, and having locked buildings required to bust them down would be good, too.

I think lockpicks or something should be used, something like the Last of Us shiv doors, so you can't go lockpicking every single mother-trucking door. Zombies would probably be in those houses, too, guarding the pile like a dragon.

TL;DR version:

The houses in question will be worth something in the SA, probably good chance of civ guns spawning in them as requested, don't like stash idea in these houses, as pointless and easy to find by others, like locked doors idea but hatchets wouldn't break from that unless it's an obsidian door.

Also, wrong section. This needs to be in the DayZ Suggestions sub-forum.

Good point about being easily broken into but with so many houses... it's a needle in a stack of needles and potentially a decent hiding spot.

Hiding a tent in the woods is still a good idea even thought they stand out like a sore thumb with their day-glo colors, but only because there's a lot more forest with nothing in it.

It depends WHERE you can hide them in houses. Under floor boards, in walls, attics, and inside old, unused boilers would be excellent places. Even in the dog shed. But hiding them just IN the house is not a good idea.

Also, if you hide a tent next to some surrounding rocks, it's better than trees. Much better.

I'm all for putting my ammo boxes in old, rotted out basement boilers. Or chimneys. That seems like a real good place.

would be cool to bust into an old locked shed if you had an axe and kick out a floorboard to reveal and cellar full of guns and ammo. Would be interesting to have the ability to leave notes behind (take a gun leave a gun - we catch you we shoot you) - stuff like that. I dunno would add to the story line for me. And if hacking off a lock did break an axe (and make a lot of noise) you'd have to selective in how you used your axe.

would be cool to have locks associated with keys and then killing a guy for his key or finding a key on a body and wondering if it's worth trying to find the lock. Would be an interesting new mechanism to see a guy locking a building then stalking him to get the key off of him then go loot his building.

I'm all in for more immersion and adventure
