Extremely slow website is in dire need of a new host.

Everything is in the title, its slow as hell. Dont know before the high raise of popularity, but it is very slow for me as of now. I wonder if its the same for everybody?

That being said, the server hosting the characters need to be improved as well, unplayable today because there are too many people and it constantly crash. :dodgy:

Another thing, you really need to consider putting this MOD on kickstarter, I would help with it and im sure many other people would so you could quit your day time job and work full time on it. ;)

It easy to think that they cols have prepared better but i very much doubt ANYONE would have expected this mod to get this popular this quick.

It will take time and eventually get there but i do agree about the kick starter, im sure many would chip in to help improve servers and make the mod run better.

I doubt it's even possible for a mod to be put on Kickstarter. The dev's should overthink their "no donations, unless you want to set up your own server"-policy. I bet a lot of people would be willing to donate.

Yeah, the website/forum has been slow on and off since I registered. It almost seems like it is run from the same box as the character database.

Would be nice if it is moved to a separate server or shared hosting account for website only (if it isn't already). The # of visitors shouldn't slow down the website this much, otherwise we would see too many connections on MySQL etc (I presume), so that's what makes me think that it runs on the same box. But what do I know :s

Well, they could at least put up some advertisements in the forums. Should bring in some bucks.

The problem is, this should have been done as a closed alpha, i mean some people even run closed betas.

Being open from the start is great for all of us up until this point where it has rocketed out of control due to popularity - and it may be its undoing.

We need a faster website yes, but the character request server is what is destroying us all.

Never mind the fact that in addition to this you cant get on anyway because people are not hosting enough servers to meet demand.

In my opinion Rocket should accept donations, but cap it to the amount it takes to run/upgrade the site. If he reached his monthly goal it shouldn't accept any more donations.

Anyone else have no issues with waits on character loading screen? I wait at most 20seconds every time....

Sometimes it's alright and sometimes it's dire.

rocket should accept no strings attached donations. Just a little bit to cover hosting costs and the odd line of coke off a hooker's belly.

Upgrade to VPS hosting and get off the shared DB - someone is hogging up the DB resources :]. A decent website capable VPS is like $50/mo. which they could easily achieve with the above mentioned donations.

I have to disagree. The amount of interest and excitement over the mod has been pretty amazing. Yes it's buggy and can lag quite a lot sometimes, yet I and most other people still enjoy it enough that we play it more than any other game.

It's an alpha, being closed has it's benefits, but so does being open. And I think to describe the pitfalls currently as "destroying us all" is way extreme. It's irritating when it lags or the servers go down, but it's more than worth it. We need more servers yes, but I still have no problem getting on the same server as 3 other friends in primetime, whats 5 minutes of pressing the Enter key.

To the other comments about donations, I think you need to be wary of Kickstarter, a few developers have gotten a bad rap for it because people felt the funds were "misused", and no doubt it would bring out the impatient trolls that whine they gave you xx but you're not doing this and that.

Accepting donations purely for server costs and hosting is a good idea though. Just start it off with an estimate of what it'd cost for 3 months, factoring in possible expansion, and cap it at that, see what you get.

The fact is a lot of people have already spent £15 on OA or £30 on CO just to play this mod. I personally never liked Arma really and only bought it because I was a massive fan of Operation Flashpoint back in the day, so this mod is the only reason I've ever had to play Arma. I'd rather be able to give something to rocket as well instead of just BIS, as I'm enjoying it that much that it's not really fair he or the rest of the team (I don't know if it's just rocket who handles costs or a collective) is out of pocket when so many people are being entertained.

The interest in the mod is amazing that's true. But it sets a lot of people off if they have to wait 15 mins to login. This might make them turn away from the mod. How can we properly test the alpha if its a real pain in the ass to even join a server?
