Player Revive idea for standalone.

Recommended Posts

I was discussing with my squad mates the other day some ideas about the health system in standalone and whether or not there would be some sort of revive feature and came up with this idea. The idea is that with playing with a group or whatever or just wanting to help someone out when their down, you could provide CPR and have a chance to revive a downed player. Now chances of success could be very low but it would definitely be a cool feature and add more intensity to an already intense situation. Of course the revived player should have some penalties, weaker, slower, etc. Humanity could be boosted for the player reviving them. But it opens up more possibilities for the medics/heroes out there and could provide a whole new experience.

Some Idea's discussed below were:

When a player goes down, there would be a time limit (realistically 2 mins) where CPR can be used with very low chance to revive a dead, or dying player. (Obviously, this would be before you hit the " YOU ARE DEAD!" screen) Example: 5-10% chance of revival.

Defibrillator (Most likely Automated External Defibrillator) gives bonus to chance of revival. Example: 20-25%

Feel free to share your opinion.

Thx for the reply. As a medic irl, I know I wouldn't be carrying blood bags or defibrillators on my person or aid bag. In the field, the most you can do is hemorrhage, airway and breathing control, and that's tough under fire.( I doubt they would go that in depth) So I can see after getting them the hell out of dodge, being able to transport the player to some sort of base or camp with bloodbags and defibrillators available.

As a medic (Military or EMS?) correct if I'm wrong, but defibrillators are not used to revive people after they have died right? If I'm correct they are used to stabilize irregular heart beats before death. I'm not sure though.

I can see something along the lines of there being a 2 min period where you are critically wounded and need someone to help.

Military. And yes you are correct, Stabilizing irregular heart rhythms. And you would use CPR in conjunction with the defibrillators. And I just remembered about AED's. An AED is a small automated portable defibrillator. They will probably have that in game.

I imagined something along those lines. You are already able to drag them to safety, so it seems to go hand in hand with the CPR thing.

They have implemented Defibrilators to the Standalone already, dont know what for, but maybe for people who ahve been dead for about a minute. Or maybe purifying stuff as electricity kills bacteria pretty well. :D

I think such a feature would be a welcome and good addition in the standalone. BUT we as medical personal should be happily overlooking any ilogical uses. Just add an AED that brings a player back to live that was in "near death" state for not longer than x minutes. Keep it simple guys ;-)

Ok. Hollywood once again is completely wrong! Haha! Back on topic though this is a good idea. However since most people don't know CPR, there should be a low chance of reviving them. Which I think is something you said.

>epi-pens

You do realize what epi-pens are right? They are epinephrine. And to my knowledge it's only used when someone is in anaphylactic shock or if you're passed out, not dead. I'm sure the medics on here can correct me if I'm wrong though.

Well, you use nothing when someone is dead, and let's hope you can't in standalone. With the new medical system, I would like to see different kinds of treatments to different diseases or critical situations.

Well you can try CPR, but I don't think that works very often.

CPR's main purpose is to restore partial flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart, and it delays tissue death and increases the probability for a successful resuscitation without permanent brain damage. It is EXTREMELY RARE when a CPR maneuver restarts the heart.

Chance of survival:

Normal hand pushing on the chest: 25%

Defib: 50%

Maybe a idea :)?

Do they have any techniques or equipment to actually try to restart a heart?

Defibs only revive people in the movies.

With an epi-pen (used in place of adrenaline etc. for the sake of the game, I know this wouldn't be 100% realistic) and CPR they'd have a very, very small chance of survival but then again, if they're dying from a fatal gunshot or similar then I don't think there's much you can do...

They could put in a very basic mechanic that would allow a small chance for survival. It would be very, very difficult to go too in depth. Say you survive a GSW to the head. In real life it's probable that you would have brain damage/ and or be paralyzed. And who would want to play DayZ with a paralyzed character.

That's true, defibrillators don't revive people, they are used in cases of ventricular fibrillation and some other pathologies which usually lead to a cardiac arrest.

That said, there are indeed ways to have a chance to revive heart by some other combined means.

Maybe but I just hope that if you get shot in the head, you're a goner. Otherwise the game will get too arcadey don't you think

Once again the A.C.E mod comes into mind when I think of the SA medical system. I think you can do CPR in ACE mod and stuff like that but the real cool thing about ACE is the near-death system. When a person gets shot anywhere but the head they go down but can be killed with enough bullets. So if someone did go down they pass out for like 2 minutes and can possibly wake up but sometimes you don't wake up if the damage is lethal enough. I have had people die in front of me in that mod because the person is riddled with bullets. It would be a great example for starting out the combat medical system in Standalone...but there is a whole lot more to medical stuff than combat scenarios.

Keeping my reply simple: Yes, this would be cool.

Realism happily goes out the window with certain things, adrenaline for healing broken bones, epi pen for waking someone else up. Go ahead and throw in the defib / AED / magic box.

I have never used a defibrillator, but an AED can most certainly restart a heart.(American Heart Association CPR/AED certified) Still chances are low and if you need an AED it usually means your heart has stopped. So the realism could be put into place

Obviously the word automated is in the name of an AED, but don't you need some type of skill or knowledge to operate one?
