victusmortuus 1074 Posted June 18, 2013 I've never really noticed this common player trait until I had access to tools like DayzCC for our server. It seems everybody just congregates around Elektro and Cherno. My question is why?
GBTP 114 Posted June 18, 2013 Better lootable areas? I figure you have a higher concentration of lootable buildings closer together between the two cities.

GBTP 114 Posted June 18, 2013 I need a few buddies, heavy weapons, a paypal account and as many antibiotics as I can find and travel server to server caravan style, charging people to cure their infections.
Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted June 18, 2013 Like the first post, fighting. And who wants to waste the ~15min run to the north only to get picked off? That's too much work, let's just sit on the coast and chill!
Zombie Jesus 723 Posted June 18, 2013 Chernarus beach party, yea it is a sausage fest with almost no chance of surviving, but it is the Zombie apocalypse and Club Med is shut down.
Blippy 26 Posted June 18, 2013 Because you can get geared just as well as you could up north while only having to run a fourth or less of the distance. The big towns are closer to spawn, so naturally newspawns go there. Obviously people who like to PvP will go to places where there are higher concentration of players. Ypsan 20 Posted June 18, 2013 That's map design issue having two largest cities near spawn points. If Cherno and Electro were up north near airfields people would migrate there, bandits would hang out there as well instead of picking off fresh spawns at the coast. Would make more sense that way, travelling up north and gearing up on the way to the "danger zone" with better loot but where more Zeds and people hang out.

entspeak 374 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) I think new spawns should occur along the middle of the map from West to East near roads. New players will be disoriented for a bit, but people will have more options for gearing up before heading off to where they want to hang. And new spawns would have a 360 degree avenue of escape rather than being forced to choose between running toward trouble or into the sea. Sula 1205 Posted June 18, 2013 Because they keep dying before they can get away from it?I get geared up and head up country, so I don't really know why. Maybe they are trying to increase chances of killing other players?

Inception. 9443 Posted June 18, 2013 Do you have any extra loot spawns down south on your server, i.e. barracks? I myself only stay in Elektro/Cherno to gear up [mostly] and then I always head north.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted June 18, 2013 I don't even bother with the main cities any more. I favour the Kamenka to Zel route these days.

Aporis 422 Posted June 18, 2013 And the Answer is mostly simple. They die before they manage to leave the coast.

boatie 34 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) I can tell you guys why I don't leave the coast.1. My buddies and I can only play for a 2-3 hours tops when together. Heading north takes 30-40 minutes depending on where you are. And so we get there, what are we suppose to do that we can't do at in the south? Since we probably spawn at different points, meeting up can take even longer. If you don't have a map, you can add even more time. By the time you meet up, that could be 1hr or more. It's stupid when the entire point of gaming together is to have fun together but it might take an hour to meet up.2. Suppose we played before and are already north, so forget #1. There are more snipers hiding in the woods in the north (I only play on big servers). You are as likely to run into a camping sniper as you are to run into another group of players. If one of you dies, what should you do? Do the people living go into the woods to be good mountain men and play by themselves, saying "see ya next time to their friend?" Should they head south to meet the respawned buddy halfway? Should they wait another 30-45 minutes for their buddy to head up north? So if a buddy dies, that 2-3 hour play session is pretty much dead in the water for him. The group can switch servers and try #1 again, I guess. If you are in the coast, you can meet up within 15 minutes depending on respawn.3. Given that we have only a few hours, we want to have some fun. We don't want to take 30-60 minutes getting into some fights. We also don't want to walk into ambushes like noobs, which if you are wandering around north is easy to do. If you go slow, that again, eats up all your time that you have to play together.4. The fun from this game, at least for me, comes from getting in fights that are completely unpredictable. You don't know what the size of the other group is. You don't know how they are armed. If you are not a camper, you don't even know when you are going to meet them. And range for the encounter is also unpredictable. Some fights occurs across hundreds of meters. Others occur within 10 meters. It's also fun because, unlike wasteland, you have to work with what you can find. You don't meet people who are armed to the teeth in every encounter, nor are you armed to the teeth. Sometimes you meet three guys with hatchet rushing you. Sometimes you are the guy with a hatchet against an ak. I don't need to go north to find this fun nor do I need to kill bambis. The only really douche bandits are those camping with a sniper and shooting ppl who just spawn in near the water. If you are a bambi and you come into one of big southern cities, you gotta know you are taking some risks. As I said in other post, survival is easy. If you play vanilla, go on a low pop server, loot farm like the best of them, and then head north. If you avoid pvp, you can survive indefinitely. If you play like I do and you don't cheat, you will die alot but thats part of the fun. Edited June 18, 2013 by boatie
mdmonnik@deakin.edu.au 139 Posted June 18, 2013 I cant stand the coast, I go north immediately. I love the sense of the upper wildy, making a camp, stumbling upon others tents/campsites, and the like.
