sarkasm0 109 Posted June 18, 2013 Third person is one of the lamest thing you can do in pvp.
boatie 34 Posted June 18, 2013 (edited) How is something an exploit if everyone can do it? Isn't that called a feature? Wtf? There is a reason why there are only a handful of 1st-person servers. I love how some people love to decide how the game should play for others. Sheesh. Edited June 18, 2013 by boatie
WBK 176 Posted June 18, 2013 Just because heaps of people use it doesn't mean that it isn't an exploit; two wrongs do not make a right. By using 3rd person you are able to do things that aren't physically possible for one person to do - either in a game world or IRL - such as seeing on the other side of a wall without exposing yourself or even having LOS to that area. There's only two reasons people use it: Your FoV is far superior to first person, or you want to exploit 3rd person.Plus 1st person is undoubtedly more immersive. I feel a lot more when I play in 1st person, I feel like I am experiencing something as opposed to living vicariously through my character. So yeah, it's an exploit. You can twist it any way you like, but it's tantamount to cheating, being able to see from another person's perspective. I don't think it should be removed, I just want 1st person to be buffed and become the perspective of choice. There is and always will be a place for 3rd person, and having the choice to do something is always better.

When did I end up in church? It's a freaking game. It's a feature of the game. The majority of players like this feature.
Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted June 18, 2013 normal FOV in 1st person is so narrowI highly recommend you increase it>>youtube
bogroll 35 Posted June 19, 2013 (edited) Wondering how so many players can jump onto games of Battlefield, CoD or any other great shooter .. and not somehow explode in rage because it isn't in 1st person. "It makesth me nauseous dude". Lame. Simple fact is this game offered an easy mode to begin with. You can't take it back unfortunately. If it had never existed this game would still have been a hit; Arma players promoted this after all: )How can you teenagerage-quit over a feature that never existed in the first place?Saw a comment on Reddit that I liked... the guy to paraphrase said that the whole point of the Arma engine was in cover (a rock that stops bullets) and concealment (a fucking bush). Being able to observe other players, whilst totally obscured using 3rd person when they can't see you, is frankly pathetic: Teenagers like unfair, but most adults like their games on a level playing field. And that is the crux of the argument. 3rd person is simply unfair. All the other pish counters about nausea (wrong; or you were bullied at school, probably quite rightly), FOV (fixable - and the mildots don't go that off ffs) and it's "more realistic" (Jesuz titty fuckin Christ) are completely invalid. At least some server owners will run 1st person. They also like to switch off the girly aids like crosshairs and nappies/diapers and nannies and other wank. DayZ is perfectly suited to 1st person, and it will be moreso given the SA's focus on authentic realism. Be nice to give the zombies 3rd person view just to piss off the kiddies.Anyway... fuck it. gregor (DayZ) 95 Posted July 28, 2013 I've always preferred the first person view, where it has been technically possible. Do not even need mention the Battleground Europe', where it was the only option. Therefore I hope that at least in the SA servers names are certainly described - Survival server (1st person view only), and Fun server (all views what you can imagine). Crazy one 124 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) Iv'e tried first person view and i love it, but unfortunately i cannot play in First person view i suffer from VIMS, Visually Induced Motion Sickness, the first person view movement makes me feel sick and dizzy i can only be in it for 30 seconds upto 5 mins then i'm done. So i have to play in the 3rd person view.and after an hour or 2 that gets me feeling sick as well. Edited July 28, 2013 by Crazy one
Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted July 28, 2013 I don't play in 1st person for 2 reasons. Head bobbing and those god awful first person models. How could Bohemia make them SO bad? The weapons have higher poly counts than in many modern games, why couldn't they make the hands high poly too? They look ugly as hell, and the only weapons that aren't held like its breaking your risk is the AK's. If they make 1st person hand models look less ugly, then I'll consider using first person. svisketyggeren 662 Posted July 28, 2013 (edited) I used to try and play on first person only servers as much as I could, but they slowly faded away. I had been playing in 3rd person for so long now that I hadn't forgotten how much more intense it is when you play strictly in first person(even if the server allows 3rd). Looking over your shoulders to see if you are being chased, while trying not to run into anything. Even the views you will get looking through cracks and wedges and stuff. It's all just a little more immersive and a little more rewarding. So, if you're looking for a new challenge, try it out. Force yourself to play in first person only, even when your opponents may be in 3rd. It's also pretty crazy with the new zeds, they can seem to come out of nowhere in the woods. =P The problem with ur suggestion...for me atleast, is that players using 3rd person can basically look through walls...they can lay down behind a obstancle and have a invis periscope to scan the enviroment. Its just silly if u ask me...why the f... do ppl wanna play like this? And secondly, its just to big of an advantage for 3rd person players over 1st person players....any tactical warfare in rural areas is ruined. I only play 1st person and prefer no crosshair too...most maps dont even have servers with ch:off and 3rd:off. This is the main reason I dont play dayz regularly atm...ppl just want easy mode, and I have no problem with that...but when all servers are easy mode care bear COD crap...im out. Selfbloodbag...lol...grow a pair of manballs dayzplayers! and for f...s sake, the head bobbing can be turned off in options! Serious Stan 202 Posted July 28, 2013 Just turning off headbobbing makes it hell of alot easyer.
jubeidok 495 Posted July 28, 2013 If there never was a 3rd person option to begin with, I don't think anyone would have ever have started the argument that the game should have 3rd. All reasons for turning to 3rd person are purely justifications for not wanting to hand someone or something else the possibility of having an advantage over you. If I take a look back, I realize that the reasons why I started to use 3rd person more and more as I played the game were all to overcome something that was giving me problems. When playing old school DayZ you pretty much had to prone everywhere if you wanted to live. So stage one for me was; I'll only switch the 3rd when prone in the grass. I felt that your field of view from the prone position is like having your chin attached to the ground, it was just too low and kills your spacial awareness. The reality was, zeds were dangerous enough that I didn't want one getting too close to me without me noticing it so I chose the comfort of the relaxed 3rd person perspective. Now I could see prone zeds snaking their way through the grass along with me. Stage 2 was when taking cover behind bushes and low rocks, barriers and fences. I justified going into 3rd in these situations with the reasoning that when really sitting behind a bush, you would have much greater control on where you could put your head in order to peer through spaces in the leaves. The same went for looking out windows and doorways. The reality was me just wanting the comfort of being able to see clearly, beyond the obstacle, so I could more effectively identify any possible threats. By now, the game is a lot more popular and I've been blind sided enough times to make it to stage 3. And that is; It's most likely what everyone else is doing, so if the server has it on I'll use it. For me, that was my worst stage, the worst reason to do anything. Then I found a hardcore server, US Chicago 10. Played on that as my main for quite a while before it disappeared. Then came stage 4. I finally decided to shell out for the add ons, high res players skins. So my new justification was; I wanted to see the pretty skins I had payed for. From there I eventually ended up back in 1st by choice and resulted in the OP.
colekern 1364 Posted July 28, 2013 I recently discovered First person only, and I LOOOOOOOOVE it. It's so much better assuming you adjusted your fov.

plexico 386 Posted July 28, 2013 If I had my way I would remove 3rd person except for vehicles as its exploited by players in the ways already posted. Its removal would make flying heli's a challenge or more so landing a heli.I'm actually much better at driving and flying with 1st person, I suck at landing in third person and am forced to do it in first. Everything feels easier to control, and when I attempt to fly in 3rd person in normal ArmA II I end up murdering my whole team on the way to the battle. Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted July 29, 2013 C'mon! First person is ugly! ArmA is a nice looking game, but the FPS models don't do it justice. It can only be really enjoyed in 3rd. Do you want to look at those conformed, blocky, poly fest of a hand?
