Ban for playing old versions

Recommended Posts

This is coming from someone who has done external QA(paid) for BIS..

Dale, I think you are missing the point of testing in general.

Theres two kinds of testing: professional QA testing and benevolent QA testing.

Professional QA testers do it because they're getting paid. If your build sucks, they will still play it, it if sucks too much, they will just tell you right away that testing isn't possible in the curcumstances. IE: Fix your shitty build and send it back, we'll test it.

Benevolent QA testers test the game because its free AND MOST IMPORTANTLY because they enjoy the game they are testing, despite its bugs. Break the game, they will rollback to a playable state.

When a solid majority of your playerbase reverts to an older version, this right here tells you you fucked up. Either you react ASAP and revert or you risk losing said playerbase.

There is absolutely no point in sending a build like this that gets all players killed, losing their inventory and getting them stuck in the first 20 minutes of the game because progress is impossible. What is the point in having a build where you can possibly crash the server for entering the NWAB barracks when NO ONE CAN REACH SAID BARRACKS?

The point of a build is being able to playtest all of it, not just the first 20 minutes.

Im not getting paid for this, if im not having fun with the current version, I WILL ROLLBACK to a previous state. If you have a problem with that, I will be leaving and you get to test it on your own.

Yeah, when I worked QA we used to report functionality bugs. What we also did is report gamebreaking/balance problems, because those are just as important if not more - as they affect the entire playerbase.

As it stands, most people are too afraid to test the 1.7.1.4 version in the fears of losing all their shit. You tell me how 10000 people just logging on and losing all their shit with the sole common denominator being "we updated to x.x.x.x version" further the cause of testing?

Well TBF, 70% of the player base (magic out of the air figure for example) roll back to an earlier version the feedback strongly says that the content of the patch they hate really isn't popular.

Of it would be MUCH better is player manned the fuck up and actually did the job of testing that they have volunteered for, but seemingly a large chunk have no idea what alpha testing is.

I guess the vague feedback is 'We don't like it this hard'. Valid reasons why would be good, rather than crying hard, but hey the player base as changed since the early days.

Oh yeah... let's ban all the people who play older versions, wich are the minority... *sarcasm*

If i wasn't supposed to have fun, meaning, the game was boring as shit to test, i wouldn't even touch... it's just retarded to think you can't have fun testing something, not to mention, for free. How about we just let then do what they want? There's enough forum users here who play the updated version.

Actually people and servers rolling back to previous versions of the mod do harm the development and testing of the mod.

That's a bit of an empty statement' date=' care to back that up with some reasoning ?

how exactly does it harm development ?

[/quote']

I wouldnt say its an empty statement mate and please lets keep this civil!! The reason I said that is because the dev team are rolling out updates on an (almost) daily basis it seems. These new updates are put out so that the testers (us) can do the testing and report back with bug reports and things that we do not like from a personal point of view.

If people dont like a feature of an update and revert back to a previous version then how can they report bugs or state reasons of why they like / hate the mod with any clarity?

The worst thing people can do it roll back to a previous version and then play on upto date servers. Then they come on these forums stating this isnt working or that sucks etc. The (probable) reason they have found something that is broke is because they are playing incompatible versions of the mod.

In all honestly, I would love to see all servers connected to the hive running the most upto date version of the mod. That way any bugs that are reported are actual bugs to do with the most recent build.

It's no use bro. This generation doesn't even what an actual "mod" is. Or even worse, an alpha version of a modification.

You can thank DICE, EA and Call of Duty for allowing us to modifiy their game. I miss the old HL1/2 modding times.

....um half life is not that old i modded those games when i was 14 or so that was 4 years ago soooo ya unless there are some kids under the age of 12 playing dayz...than no we are all in the same generation.
