New Zed mechanics

So I didn't have alot of time to play last night but it's clear the Zed's have changed enough that our previous methods of avoiding them don't work anymore.

I was quickly killed last night more than once by a combination of Zed's and Infection.

My Observations ....

They are easier to agro and harder to lose once they are after you.

They can hit you now while running and can knock you down while running.

They can still walk through walls.

They can still spawn in your field of view and can spawn right next to you now.

Either Zed's can now see in the dark or they can hear far better than they used to.

In pitch black, before moonrise, I was quickly swarmed by many zeds while just slow walking or crouch running at distances that were never a problem before.

My visibility indicator was zero and my audibility indicator was one or two bars.

It was too dark to see where they were coming from but I suspect they were spawing out of nowhere right behind me.

They followed me into buildings and kept coming, or if I exited the building before they entered, they just went around the building and kept after me.

I could not lose them in a pine tree with zero visibility and audibility.

Coughing and near death, I decided to log off and wait for moonrise so I could see better

I did a little better once I could see, but not much. Zed's appear to be able to see me from a significant distance away even with my visibility indicator at only one bar.

When I would run into a building, many zeds would spawn in the building right near me blocking doorways and staircases.

Previously, Zed's would not spawn within X meters of the player.

This mechanic appears to have been removed so that now Zed's won't spawn in your field of view but 4-6 of them can spawn right behind you.

IMHO, this needs to be changed. I appreciate that they I won't be able to see them spawn but I don't appreciate having them spawn so close to me.

So what have you figured out about how the Zeds work now? What other mechanics are we going to have to get used to?

You can't play like you did before.

There's no more running through Cherno, ditching zombies in a bush. You have to actually utalize the "crouch walk" option, and sometimes even..."crawl".

Don't run in the open like you used to, stick walls, bushes, go from building to building.

Long story short, zombies are a threat now, like they used to be. You have to play DayZ stealthy, quiet. You have to stick to the shadows, and you can't just pretent your a bull moose when looting.

That sounds all well and great on paper but the zombies are broken and will always be that way.

unfortunately yes... this was the reason they wanted to do everything "from scratch" with the SA. hopefully they can do this :unsure:

No, zombies are not broken, zombies are difficult.

Homecome now that everyone is getting ripped a new one by zeds the mod is automatically "broken" and "fucked up."

You can't actually be serious saying the the zombies in Dayz are NOT broken. They've always been broken and as you so elegantly put "fucked up", however their glaring deficiencies are painstakingly obvious since they can now hit you whilst moving, knocking you over and infecting you.

So what you're saying is, you want it to be as long as your running, you're invinsible to zombies?

Zombies are meant to be a challenge, and just because they made them harder, that doesn't mean there broken. It means there a challenge.

I don't think more difficult = broken. Broken implies they don't work at all and clearly they do work.

I was frustrated last night but I was also scared and immersed which is what the game is about.

It's not a bad thing that the Zeds are more challenging, but I do think it's a bad thing that they can spawn out of nowhere right near you.

I think they were spawning in the building next to me because I ran to the building quickly so they din't have time to spawn before I got there.

Still, that's really frustrating to be hit by a Zed from behind when there was nothing there a few seconds ago.

My post was not a complaint but an effort to figure out how they work now so I can figure out how to play the game now.

Nope I want them to stop trying to make the zombies a major threat in a game were they are quite clearly broken. The fact they can hit you whilst running from quite a distance, whether that is from behind you, side or front you get hit which results most of the time in you hitting the floor face first. Now also add in the fact you are likely to get infected then it becomes a problem.

I 100% love the game of Dayz being a challenge but when all these things are combined the game is unplayable and definitely not fun. The thread I made explains why also.

Broken as in clipping through walls to hit you, knocking you down, infecting you, leaving you to play Dayz Antibiotic quest. As well as other players aggro'd zombies hitting you because of this new mechanic.

The spawns have always been a problem, and that will be fixed in the SA. You just need to be observant for the time being.

Zombies are not broken. Yes, they have bugs, and glitches, but this is an alpha for a reason. Yes, zombies can hit you while you're running, that's not some game breaking feature, it's logical. As for you falling, makes sense, and while it might be too common, it's put in place so you're not going to sprint through a horde like a dumbass like you could do in 1.7.6.1.

As for infection, that's so players play carefully. If someone who's infected cuts you, you're probably going to get infected.

P.S. What's your definition of broken? Just becasue something has bugs, that doesn't make it broken.

EDIT: If zombies were broken, they would be teleporting to you, 1 hit kills, not agroing, invinsible, etc.

I see you have only been on the forums since January 2013, so I'm going to go out on a whim and say you've only been playing for that long as well? Zombies have always clipped through walls, and had other bugs. That makes them buggy, not broken.

Zombies knocking you over? That doesn't make them broken. If I was chasing you, I'm fairly sure I could knock you down. As for infection; these zombies aren't exactly germofobes. They eat dead people, and are covered in dirt, mud, rotten blood, and I would assume urine and fecal matter. The fact that you contact an effection after you revieve a bitch slap only makes sense.

Yes, your player is immune to the zombie virus, but you're player isn't immune from other infections.

Long story short, just because they made zombies harder, and gave them a more realistic aspect, that doesn't make them broken.

What I'm saying is, you've been playing since zombies have been nurfed, so you automatically hate it when they hand you your ass. You haven't listed any reasons that make them "broken" you've only listed minor bugs that are being worked on.

If you're really hateful towards these oh, so, broken zombies, then make a post with contructive critisim. Don't just bitch and moan that they are "broken."

Either that, or stop playing DayZ.

It's fine. Zombies are just more of a threat now.

Let's all agree that in 1.7.6.1, they were mobile scenery.

You need to adapt and keep on surviving.

Dude, so why not give the zombies some anti-material rifles and give them 100% chance of hitting you if you are 600m or closer.

After all, the harder the better, right?

So your saying a zombie witha 10 ft reach that can see you through walls, and hit you through walls is not broken!

If not then I guess it's just a matter of opinion, you'll probably always be wrong

Hello peeps,

For the zeds to become a thread they do not really need to be more OP and so.. Considering that zombies now have long invisible arms, eyes on the back of their heads, night-vision goggles and can start raging you from 100-200 meters away even you crawl and its night-time, hit you before they get near you or even jump on you, going thru walls, dodging bullets and so, they are pretty much and probably more than enough OP as of now. Oh right.. And now you can get infected and probably die afterwards.. Zeds can now also knock you down on the ground.. =))

Check State of Decay and Dead Rising 3 guys.. And also "THE LAST OF US" ..! Even the zeds that are slower and less powerful than humans proved to be able to actually be a real thread and fun for the peeps..
