Why can I not use my character on friends pc?

Recommended Posts

I am currently at my buddies place but it forces me to play his character even though I am signed on to my steam account.

Characters aren't on steam accounts. They're on ArmA II accounts. Want to play your character at your friends house? Bring your computer.

You just need to run the game/steam as admin so the key updates in the registry to your version. Then create a new profile on the main menu as it will use his name/setting by default (or you can both use the same name)

yup, steam has its own User id which is the STEAM:ID and arma 2 has a GUID, inorder for your avatar to be present you'll need your guid on his computer, which makes no sense so bringing your computer is the only option.

Huh? i thought STEAM:00: ID and arma 2 GUID were completely separate, wouldn't moving it be considered as duplication?

They are, ArmA OA/DayZ doesn't use Steam ID's though, it only uses your GUID. One of the reasons why CD Key theft is so prominent as it can just be read out of the registry and stolen.
