dulix11 731 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Right now, there is a windscreen, engine and wheels. There is alot more to a car than that. There should be more stuff like:- Batteries- Side windows- Fuel tanks- Mirrors- (Motor)bike wheels- Brake pads if you want to go to the extreme.- Hubcaps- Spark plugs- Fan belts- RadiatorsOf course, things like mirrors, windows and hubcaps wouldn't be a necessity for your car to drive properly. Also vehicle parts should degrade over time.- Wheels that are degraded have a higher chance of popping, coming off / they take less damage before breaking.- Engines that are degraded have a higher chance of breaking down.- Fuel tanks that are degraded use more fuel.- Windows that are degraded have cracks and holes in them.- Batteries that are degraded will give your vehicle a bigger chance of breaking down.- Brake pads that are degraded will obviously make braking difficult.Maybe engine upgrades? ie: you could find a car and put a bigger, faster engine inside. You could also find Xzibit and he'll pimp your ride and give you unecessary and dangerous things like an Xbox in your dashboard and replacing your wheels with ice-cream machines. fluxley 2228 Posted June 9, 2013 But seriously, would love to see more in depth vehicle maintenance and modifications, practical applications from modification.-Take shock absorbers and wheels from an offroad vehicle and fit to something like the gaz, giving an increase in offroad speed, but a decrease in handling.-Apply metal sheet to body work, thin metal would be good protection from zombies, thicker metal could provide small protection from bullets.-Roof racks, so you can find containers and strap them to the roof for extra storage.-Fit large oil drums to increase the size of the fuel tank, at the cost of storage space.-Bull bars, increase vehicles durability from head on collisions, with added bonus of sending zombies further when you homerun them.-Mounted weapons, LMG attached to the back of a pickup for example, would need to abide by the rules as normal hand held weapons, maintenance, limited ammo loaded by the player, and be very hard to aim from a moving vehicle.-Lights, upgrade headlights or simple add high power multi directional spot lights.-Engine upgrades, increase in performance, decrease in reliability. And as rocket has alluded, the more players work on and repairs vehicles the greater their chance of success in applying all these mods. methr1k2dop3 323 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Isn't Dayz a zombie survival game?maybe mess around with vehicles a lil bit but you guys are just getting silly.maybe armor up a vehicle with metal around it.....but i don't want to find myself spending a hour trying to find windshield wipers for my car..... fluxley 2228 Posted June 9, 2013 Isn't Dayz a zombie survival game?maybe mess around with vehicles a lil bit but you guys are just getting silly. The picture of the supercharged gaz is not to be taken seriously, i'm not expecting anything like that.any kind of engine upgrade should be pretty much 'endgame' as far as the vehicle system is concerned, but the rest of the suggestions are all very doable by anyone with a bit of experience working on vehicles.Does it all fit within the scope of DayZ? I believe so, everyone has different ideas of where this game is going due its open world nature and the way its being developed, but i think one of the best things they can add is extra depth and complexity to every aspect of the game.Medical system, weapon maintenance, clothing, construction, hunting/preparing food and vehicles. nothing should be excluded.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) Having to replace tires like in the early version of Wasteland or needing time to replace part would be funny. There is nothing more to hate than instant repair...-Engine upgrades, increase in performance, decrease in reliability.I want to see someone making a apocalyptic tuning...even nowadays a lot of amateur tuners blow their engines up with such kind of stuff. Nothing against tuning but tuning would be the last thing i would do when survival is the most important. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted June 9, 2013 I always want more when it comes to fiddly little details. I can't help it.As far as I'm concerned, the more non-vital parts, the better. The ideal vehicle-care feature, IMO, would be visual inspection. The simplest spot-checks obviously wouldn't be needed EVERY time, just the odd occasion. It's the kind of thing that you wouldn't really care about unless it was YOUR car and you felt the need to take proper care of it.Bald tires, for example, aren't going to stop you going for a spin, it'll just be a bit sketchy until you replace them.
fluxley 2228 Posted June 9, 2013 Visual and audible clues would be great such as black smoke coming from the exhaust when the oil is old, steam coming from the radiator when the engine is over heating and different engine sounds signifying engine wear. Nem3sis 11 Posted June 23, 2013 It's already confirmed that they are revamping vehicles. Rocket wants to be able to swap things like a door from one vehicle to another. Not sure what else he has in mind but it is in the works.
harley001 315 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) I think its fine the way it is. It takes long enough to repair a car. Edited June 24, 2013 by harley001
WBK 176 Posted June 24, 2013 I think apart from batteries - which we definitely need - most other things are too nitpicky to add before they improve other issues with the game. And don't we already have fueltanks? If a weight-style inventory is where we're headed, then it will be nigh on impossible to build/repair a car without a proper base system. I'm a small details kinda guy, and I think in a real apocalypse people would fit their cars with all kinds of accessories and add ons like metal armor for instance. But DayZ right now doesn't have any capacity to keep cars safe. If we're talking realism - and I hate to use this argument in an apocalypse game - people would be hiding cars under makeshift ghillie tarps, inside abandoned buildings and whatnot. People would mod their cars because they could keep them safe. Right now it'd be pointless putting add ons on a car when you know it could be stolen within a day or two.I do think though, with an advanced base building system that improving cars will become an increasingly important aspect of the game. A car will become an extension of the people using it, and become the pride and joy of a group, as well as being the most badass piece of machinery around. And I do mean people. There is almost no way with a weight system that one person could realistically repair a car within a reasonable time frame.
