My feelings on the negativity toward Rocket and other devs.

Recommended Posts

First off, I want to thank everyone who had contributed to making this one of the most fun (&successful) mods out.

The "Fuck this I'm leaving, Rocket screwed it up" post's are really wearing thin.

We're part of the development team as testers, it's our job to find bugs and report them..and if we have fun in the process, awesome.

One thing you should know about coding is, when one error is fixed...twenty more are likely to pop up, and it's our job to find it.

Rocket and his team can't possible find every bug during their pre-release testing..that's where we come in.

Our player numbers right now allow for weekly updates. This many players means more bugs discovered and remedied.

I can understand how it can be frustrating to be having a blast, and a new update bugs something you enjoyed.

Suck it up, report it, and expect an update soon.

Other titles release quarterly updates, be thankful you won't have to wait months for hotfixes.

Now, with that said, those who threaten to leave...either do so..or stick around and help find the bugs and exploits so they can be fixed.

The more players that report bugs, the faster beta comes and the faster a final release will be here.

the ones that ragequit won't be gone for long. they know this is a great, one of a kind game and their tantrums will wear off eventually. if not, well then good riddance

I just personally hope that the dayz dev team have thick enough skins to not let all the little self entitled brats get to them and to realize that the vast majority is EXTREMELY happy with DayZ and the direction it is taking and have utmost confidence in them.

As with all things though, there seems to be an extremely vocal minority where as the extremely happy majority remains rather quiet, because we are happy and are playing DayZ :)

I don't know why people can't just learn how to criticize without all the personal insults. but obviously this is an issue that's not unique to this forum

There's a lot of hate on these forums (from all sides). I think a lot of players bought arma 2 to play DayZ expecting some big AAA title and are a bit disappointed at learning about the state the game is in. It's as you said: this game mod is being tested and that is a very long and frustrating process.

The good thing is that the DayZ devs know who to listen to. People have been complaining about the difficulty and this and that for days.

Those that understand the Alpha concept, and the idea that this game isn't supposed to be easy, are certainly minorities because they aren't complaining on the forums all the time.

I'm glad that rocket is sticking to his guns and ignoring all the whiners.

This is an issue on all forums, across the internet. People are hateful and a lot of people feel extremely self-entitled. Especially when they spend money.. even if this mod is free.

I can,t easily join a game because ALL the servers are jam packed! I think the dev team knows many people just ADORE this game worts and all. It would take a lot to make me quit I appreciate the hard work that is going into this game. I also love the fact that it is always changing and growing it makes it more of an exciting challenge!

Those who are the least satisfied are also the most vocal. There are a quarter of a million players and not many of them feel the need to say anything on the forums because they are happy...

It is a shame that those posting any constructive criticism also get shot down in flames though. It is quite clear that the dev team are taking the communities ideas on board, so if somebody makes a credible suggestion I would like there to be less trolls telling that person that they should just stop playing. The more suggestions and feedback, the better the polished game will be. Do not discount the masses, that is who you are making the game for.

Insert a smarmy comment about this being an, 'anti-game.' Given the level of cooperation this mod has had with the creators of ARMA 2, I would say this will be a major selling point for ARMA 3. Which means it will be a balanced, well rounded finished product, not a deathmatch with zombies. If it ends up going the MMO direction there will be persistent measures to compliment a players play time or, 'humanity,' however that ends up playing out.

Personally I would like to see players unlocking the survival items such as a map, compass and hunting knife dependent upon the players play style and play time. By unlocking, I mean permanently available (they could still be looted in the conventional way but would not persist through death). If you are a survivor who likes teaming up with people to get better equipment, the system will compliment you with early unlocks for hunting knives, matches and other equipment which is vital for surviving as long as possible. However, if you are a ruthless bandit that always shoots on sight, the system will unlock other items such as maps and compasses to allow you a greater sense of navigation and allow you to travel between hotspots at a faster rate. I'm not saying it is a perfect idea, but it is at least a suggestion.

Great games are built upon tweaking in the early alpha stage, the more testers the better (see the Blizzard doctrine). As a community we should take advantage of this situation as let our voices be heard. Don't flame each other for no reason other than to belittle someones opinion.

Agreed, but sometimes you can tell from their rant that they care more about their own gameplay then providing constructive feedback. When someone REALLY cares they usually post it in bugs/suggestions section.

this thread is just as equally white noise as the complaint threads. yin/yang and rocket isn't particularly fond of either. we're not here to talk about our feelings.

This, I don't see why people are so self entitled to everything everywhere these days.

It's called ALPHA for a reason. It's in the first stage of development and we are lucky enough to get to help out and even play this.

I've been killed so many times from nothing and glitches and even falling though buildings and such when i spawn in, or just playing normally. It tears a bit right there and then, but it don't take long to tell yourself its a alpha mod, and you are here to help and no "play" as you would "play" a game.

If anything, I'm seeing more people hating on anyone who has a dissenting opinion about anything to do with this mod, even game mechanics and bugs.

It's like all these people say "yeah were testing an alpha and looking for bugs and stuff" but the minute someone reports one or gives thier opinion on a game mechanic(something were SUPPOSED to do) they have ten "hardcore elitist" types insulting them and telling them not give thier opinion on anything.

It just makes these testers want to stop posting and its really a form of bullying.

It's Like anything Rocket does in-game is "untouchable" and cant be critiqued at all.

I think the more we work on building a more OPEN community, the better the opinions and critiques will be.

the most important post i read in the thread.

forums will always be where a vocal minority will turn up. the vast vast majority of this game is pretty much in love with it as far as i can tell and totally support rocket and BI.
