Has Rocket mentioned Wasteland Weapons?

Recommended Posts

I do NOT mean "Wasteland Weapons" as in the Wasteland mod for ArmA 2 and A3.

That being said, what I do mean is that when you spend 4 weeks shooting, cleaning, repairing, stripping, and modifying a M4A1 or AK47 (the kinds of weapons I expect in the SA), you get to know the firearm pretty well. Not only that specific firearm, but you start to connect the dots on how firearms operate in general, and might just think of cheap means of creating your own firearms.

Again, I feel I need to specify before someone busts a tit and infers false truth from my post:

I do not propose users be capable of creating chainsaw-shooting shotguns with flaming bayonets and infrared scopes on them. I do not fancy the idea of users creating sniper rifles that are fully automatic. Nor do I wish to see the game full of 200-rounds-per-magazine assault rifles.

Ever play Fallout 3, a game with a very interesting crafting system? As you developed your repair skill and found blueprints, various weapons became craftable with the right supplies. One of my favorites (for it was the most realistic of any craftable weapon) was the Railgun, which required (a lot of) scrap metal, magnets, a ridiculous repair skill, and the like. The weapon had a 10-shot magazine (if I remember correctly) that fired railroad spikes, an impossibly rare item to all but the most scrutable.

I clarify again: I do not want wonder weapons of the Science Fiction genre in DayZ. That would be silly, and an immersion breaker.

What I do want to see is the ability to take parts from other firearms (springs, pistons, actions, levers, bolts, et cetera), combine them with scrap parts (scrap metal, tape, ghillie netting, glass, tin cans) and mix them all together to make a list of pre-made "Custom" weapons. (I do not want to create the dev hell that is code for every possible combination of stats and parts)

These "Custom" weapons could have the modifiable values like color (chrome finish for the stylish, black for the stealthy, rusty for the lazy), cosmetic differences like ghillie netting (for you damn snipers!), and craftable low-quality modular parts (scopes, grips, and all the other things Rocket wants to include for upgrading/degrading weapons in the SA)

Foreword note: Survivor weapons would degrade (and be harder to maintain) significantly faster than scavenged weapons.

To make these weapons "Unique," they could be named at/after crafting. (You name your rusty revolver "Harry," since it's so dirty, for example)

Weapon Ideas

When I started this thread, I thought my weapon ideas list would be longer.

Is this not the crafting part?

Rocket has shown crafting so far as disinfecting stuff, and has mentioned modifying weapons like bats with nails in them. He hasn't (so far as I know) mentioned creating weapons from scratch/from other guns.

As long as we keep it authentic, then maybe it could work. Good suggestion applejaxc.

Thanks. :) (I doubt Rocket would go overboard with something stupid)
