just bought it and all i can do is "bird"

Recommended Posts

k so my mate was all like "yeah man dayz is sick man , u need to buy it and come play cause ur all tactical pro blah blah blah". ok so i bought combined ops arma 2 thru steam . Steam even installed dayz mod and everything seemed to go ok.

as soon as i launch all titles and attempt to go into a dayz server , one of 4 things happen ....

Server version differs ,,, disconnect

join button broken ... not even a connect ...

You have been kicked ... disconnect

i get in , pick a role , and become a bird that can only seem to open chat with a group and fly around ...

i was advised to install 2 programs to assist with these issues at first , Dayz commander . ( looks good , seems to do its job) still suffering the 1 of 4 scenarios above

and playwithsix mod that would allow me to connect and update ,

i honestly have never seen this type of mod behaviour ( i download a list of mission information upon selection of role , but end up as a bird anyways.) im pretty switched on with games and mods but i have had no experience in Arma 2 and need a bit of an explanation .

WTF is with the bird anyways ?

It happens on certain servers that need a restart, try a different server or wait for the restart. They should be restarted about every six hours.

Appearing as a bird can mean two things;

1. The server is glitched and you're in the spectator-mode.

2. Degrade has kicked in and has turned you into a bird. (It's an anti-piracy counter-act.)

Edit;

PROBLEM: Spawn as a crow/bird.

SOLUTION 1: Find another server. The server you've connected to is not a correct version, even though it let you connect to it.

SOLUTION 2: Download DayZ Commander to update your version of DayZ(or variation of) to the version the server you're trying to connect to is running on.

WHY: What you're experiencing is the Spectator Mode. It's a normal part of ARMA 2, but is caused by a server-side glitch in DayZ. Most likely because of an incorrect version.

Often the bird is a result of having incorrect version running.

Open DayZ Commander, and check that your ARMA version is corrent ( Click install/update, update ARMA )

Here is a 2min DayZ Commander video Tutorial:

Also Check that the servers you are joining, are actually DAYZ servers.

Aye, DayZ is currently one of the few situations where Steam isn't actually the most convenient/efficient way of running the game. DayZ Commander is much better for that particular task.
