Copperore14 0 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) Hello players. I have been told that you fellows are the best of the best, the crème de la crème. My questions are as follows:1. What is up with this DayZ Alpha thingy? Is this the start of the full game? I have heard that the next version will be coming out in June and will cost about $5 to $10 to get into the beta. I really want to buy ArmA II:CO so that I can play the DayZ mod. What is going on with this Alpha version and should I wait until it comes out?2. If I buy ArmA II:CO on Steam, will I still have access to the Alpha version of the full game (seeing as it requires the ArmA II:CO files to play)?3. Is ti worth it? I know that since most of you have the full game (and like it), but what are the major pros and cons?My main questions are the ones about buying it on Steam and waiting for the Alpha version to come out. Thanks a lot guys. I hope to be playing this game when I get it, or when the Alpha comes out.EDIT: The first part of my question is black. I have no idea why... If you highlight it you can see it. I changed the color to white, it looks different but you can see it at least. Edited May 27, 2013 by Copperore14
Rage VG 4033 Posted May 27, 2013 (edited) Hi there,1. There is no DayZ Alpha available to the public. You have confused the ArmA series (Which DayZ is a mod of) with the DayZ franchise. ArmA 3 Alpha is unrelated to DayZ.2. If you mean buying ArmA 2 giving you access to the DayZ Standalone, then no. They are two separate games. Think of it as a sequel; you wouldn't get Portal 2 just because you bought Portal. Bear in mind that you have not paid anything for DayZ.3. It's certainly worth it, since the price you pay for ArmA 2 itself is worth it. DayZ is just a bonus. Edited May 27, 2013 by Rage VG

Isn't that the sequel? Can I not play it buy buying ArmA II:CO?Should I or should I not buy the ArmA II:CO on Steam? That is now the big question (I can but it at places like GOG.com etc.) though, if possible, I would prefer to get it on Steam. Once again, I have no idea what is going on right now...PS: If I am missing something pretty obvious here, please explain. I am really be when it comes to the difference between two similar things. Rage VG 4033 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) Okay, I'm not sure where we are missing each other so I'll just give you a basic rundown, and see if that clears things up.DayZmod is a modification of the game ArmA 2. It is not a game in its own right, as it is reliant on two other games to function. As such, the mod itself is free.DayZGame is a game in itself that is currently in development and in closed beta. This will have nothing to do with the ArmA series or DayZMod. As this is a full game, you will be able to buy into the alpha at a low price. As for your other question, I would recommend buying it via Steam. It is the simplest way to do it, and all troubleshooting steps that myself and the DayZ support team default to are under the assumption that you are using a Steam copy. That's not to say we can't help you otherwise; it will just take a bit more time. Edited May 28, 2013 by Rage VG
Copperore14 0 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I understand that it is a mod for ArmA that is free on Steam. I now understand that the DayZGame is under development and will be released sometime next month (I did a little research), I also get that I should buy it on Steam. My (hopefuly) last question is: Do you suggest I wait until the beta is opened, then but into it. Buy it on Steam now. Or buy it on Steam now, play it for awhile, then get it when the beta opens? I am guessing that you are going to say the last option. I have heard that when the beta opens the buy in will be $5 to $10, which is very cheap. Edited May 28, 2013 by Copperore14

The mod will always be active and looked after by its community, so you don't have to worry about it dying.I was in the middle of typing a reply when I thought to myself "Eh, Rage will be here soon anyway, and do it better."Nice to see some things never change.Just doin' mah job. herrjon 478 Posted May 28, 2013 (edited) I'm not sure where you're getting this promise of DayZGame coming out next month, a link of some form would be helpful. As for buying Arma or not, I would still recommend it. I take it in your research you've seen some gameplay of DayZMod an it drew your interest, well that's the sort of thing you'll come to expect out of the mod, i.e. basic survival with PvP threats. Rocket has said recently that at this point Standalone, or the full game, the game and the mod are on completely different planets gameplay wise . Now we can't say for sure what it will be like, but from what we've been told suriving the elements is going to be a lot harder, and they're going to push for more cooperation and less military style fire fights. In the end, it's not that expensive to get Arma II:CO, one forumer looked at it as 2 movie tickets, so as long as you get 6 hours of enjoyment out of it, you got your money's worth. I say get it. Edited May 28, 2013 by (TMW)HerrJon
