Building a Computer

Recommended Posts

Ok! So I managed to scrape by with a 500 dollar computer, not built for DayZ... I managed to kill people in elektro with 5 FPS xD

But I want to upgrade and by budget is around $700.

I don't know if that is enough but I hope it is..

Could you post the specs for a computer to run Dayz and other games at a good framerate at that price?

My first advise if you want to get the best performance for your money.

1: DONT buy a new case, just find an old pc and put your new parts in it

2: DONT buy a dvd drive because again some old pc will probably have one

3: DO buy a decent CPU, dayz depends almost equally on CPU as on GPU not like most games use more GPU than CPU

Suggested spec list for 700$

i5 3570k

GTX 660 (because of physx might be implemented)

some 500 watt psu ( maybe an old pc might have one)

1 stick of 4gigs pc12800 cl9

mobo: B75 type mobo because if you want to overclock with a Z77 its going to cost a lot more

What framerate will that run in elektro?

Depends really on the server's ping and your quality settings

If the server has <30 ping and you set the spec to very high (without AA and without Post process) you should be able to push 50+ fps at 1080p

Wow! thats a big jump from 5 :D

Sure is smooth as silk. But keep in mind that those numbers I have got using an SSD to store arma 2. Don't get me wrong you will still get the same performance, but if you zoom in with your scope for instance or you quickly turn the camera an old hard drive will have a hard time sending all the textures to the RAM which will result in some 'stuttering' . Whether you find that annoying is just personal preference but I wanted to point that out to you

With that budget, AMD is the way to go. Here is a decent build around your price range;

CPU- AMD FX 6300 $130

GPU- AMD Radeon HD 7850 $200

MOBO- MSI AMD 970A G43 AM3+ $80

RAM- GSKILL RIPJAWS 8gb DDR3 1600 $70

HDD- Seagate 500gb 7200rpm $60

CASE- NZXT SOURCE 210 40$

PSU- Corsair CX 750 $80

Unless you already have an operating system, I'd go with Windows Vista. Its a cheap thirty-forty bucks, and its similar to windows 7 aesthetically. Thoughts?

*cough* bottleneck *cough* But seriously, that build screams "no upgrade for you!". With an AMD build, you can afford a much better board with overclocking capability, 8 gigs of ddr3 ram, and an equivilant graphics card(660 is about the same as 7850). Plus, he'd get better quality parts in the computer itself.

Screw AMD

Intel all the way

AMD has better performance for the money. If you want to pay more than you have to for something that is just *slightly* better(seriously, 4-6 frame difference between most i5's and the 6300 and 8350). Plus, AMD GPU's have a WAY better TDP(how much power it takes), and again bring more performance for the money. So, unless you want the best possible and have the money to back it up, I'd stay with AMD for any sub-$900 build.

This is pretty much what I built a few months ago. Went with a gtx 550 ti to keep cost down. Spent 500 bucks and I haven't seen below 40 FPS in DayZ (720p and default settings). Probably won't run too many games on ultra quality, but honestly, do you really need to?
