Hatchets takes shitload of space in 1.7.1.4

I noticed that hatchet takes 10 slots in backpack and takes pri wep slot when used.

IMO it should take max 2 slots and should be used in sec wep slot.

Yeah it's extremely obnoxious and I think everyone dislikes it. We should leave the crowbar and change the hatchet back to what it did

there are some serious issues with weapon sizes in this game...

i fully understand an assualt rifle taking up tons of space, but how the hell are pistols, flashlights, or hatchets as big as they are?

how about we bring SOME realism to the size of items.

Neither is an engine and all the parts that go with it, but that only takes up 5 slots (assuming you are willing to provide a suspension of disbelief that one would could haul around an engine (and a spare tire!) in ones back back to begin with).

Utility of the tool needs to be balanced against it's inventory profile. Melee weapons are special use items, and no one is going to carry a 10 hatchet around. Currently makes them irrelevant.

Engine Parts take up 6 slots, so do Car Wheels and the Main Rotor Assembly.

Which is more bulky, really?

Course it doesn't fit in your pocket you derp, but its a *small* hand axe, its not a two hander, it certainly shouldnt be 10 slots and with the way the inventory system doesn't work in ARMA, it shouldn't require moving things around to get some wood.

Hatchet's are bull**** now. Take a whole primary weapon's slot, are you retarded!?! Or 10 backpack slots, WTF!!

No more hunting in the woods for food like a normal outdoorsman, oh no. Now I now gotto go into a friggen building to find WOOD, then carry it with me out into the forest where the animals are, so I can cook the damn meat I might find. dafuq.

Neither is a bloody Assault rifle, Sniper riffle or LMG gonig to fit in your backpack.

Stop your realism shit, this game is far from realistic.

Also this game is bugged, you get hit by zeds that are over 6 feet away from you, a melee weapon can be very ineffective, especially in game were melee was not designed for.

IMO it should ONLY take the whole secondary slots( so no pistol with the use of a melee weapon)

HOLY BALLZ OF STEEL it takes 10 spots jesus also to the idiot who said its fine the way it is...um you do know back packs have like things on the side that allows you to attack objects to it right like let them hang on the side of it....so if you want to talk REAL realism than ya it is fucked up to have it take 10 slots

What if we have a hatchet in our gadget inventory from before the patch? I have ZERO need for the hatchet as a melee weapon; I have survived this long without needing a melee weapon and I definitely don't need one that takes up 10 slots. All I need is something to get wood. Will those of us who already have hatchets in our gadget slot lose our primary weapon, or will crazy shit only happen if we try to drop it and pick it up again?

I have looked all throughout the forum, and I haven't found anyone discussing this... Does no one have a hatchet from before .2?

Your hatchet just disappears. I've been passing up great hunting opportunities because I can't cook the meat :(.

I lost my main weapon and hatchet in the .2. In .4 I lost my second main weapon+all ammo for it, entrenching tool, pistol with all ammo and got a macaroni instead.

I really think hatchets should be made tools again so we can chop down wood and make other items melee weapons such as baseball bats/crowbars etc.

Someone suggested putting the hatchet back in the utility slot and being able to right click it to arm it, and right click it to harvest wood. If it's made a little weaker (since it would only take up one of these slots) then this would be a fine idea.
