Sleeping?

I thought it would be cool to use camping tents for other things than just storing items.

Sleeping could allow the players to gain a small amount of blood back (maybe 20 per minute) at the risk that someone could find them and kill them.

Players can log off when sleeping and if there not on in 12 hours there character disappears from the server.

p.s. I do NOT know how arma servers work, let alone DayZ. I do NOT know if this is indeed possible

Umm. No thanks.

A regen system is being added into DayZ, and if your blood was to regen 20 per minute, from 6k blood, it would take 300 minutes to get full blood.

And the idea of having to re-log within 12 hours sounds horrid.

Well how do you propose this would work? You would just stare at your character lying on the ground for eight hours? Or you log off, and for some unexpected reason you can't play again in 12 hours and everything you have is gone? Sleep would be a nice thing to have in theory, but there's not a good way to implement it that I've ever heard.

I think (playing Devil's advocate here) the only way this could work gameplay-wise, is if "sleep" was more of a power-nap, lasting a minute or two.

During this time, your blood could refill faster (if regeneration is part of the health system), bruises / pain would subside faster, and your hunger/thirst would drain a LOT faster (to compensate for the health-boost).

Logging out while sleeping, I'm not so keen on. I think, if it's included, it would have to be done during game-time, since tents are tied to servers while players are not.

this question has been raised over and over again... in my opinion a game and in particular this one should be as immersive as even possible, but to me there are some boundaries. sleeping and yes even defecation goes beyond those for me. although as authentic as possible it should, be above all, a game. a game to enjoy. so no and always no no matter what. there are simply some mechanisms in game that do not work as intended and dim the joy.

I think it would take too many server resources to have 35 idle players.

On another note i think it would work if you log in you would "wake up"

I agree with it, but logging on in twelve hours is stupid. Plus it is kinda useless but i guess it it cool.

hmm i believed there was a sleep option by my tent on a couple servers i have played on.

Not exactly sure what it did.

Kinda just sat there for like 10 seconds and got up.

i don't remember the names of the servers.

A overall fatigue meter would be interesting, as long as it didn't make players feel like there was a daily cap on what you can do in a day and have to log off or sit for hours.

Not talking about being winded after sprinting.

I believe a well rested player that hasn't been doing to much running should get the drop on some one that just ran from ele to cherno.

but really i'm content with how it is now.

Maybe encourage players to walk?

Walking from city to city sounds pretty horrid tho.

12 hours could regen a LOT of blood. And if your cam pi hidden well enough you won't be found anyway! I checked and it seems that DayZ simply cannot do It though....

Thought the 12 hours was the time your body would stay on the server (bit like when you combat log with the timer) although the 12 hours is a bit long maybe 2 hours would be better before you did a full log off allowing you to regain 2400 health per sleep cycle.

So how will this work in game

-You pitch a tent

-You scroll wheel over tent and select sleep

-you are now in the tent sleeping at this point you can log off or sit and watch your character sleep what ever floats your boat

- During the sleeping you will slowly regain blood (use above amount 20 per/min)

- If two hours pass and you have logged off (and did not log back in on that server or another) your body disappears (your safe) but you no longer gain blood if you did not log off you will continue to gain blood.

-sleep stops next time you log in regardless if the 2 hours is up your body will just disappear.

So when sleeping

Your screen turns black (yeah no peeping you are sleeping)

Your sound gets turned down (or maybe even off)

You can be killed

You regain health
