Did anyone else feel dayz felt cooler first time playing?

No man it happens to everygame. It's pretty obvious, the game (mod really) Is fresh, you spawn in and a 225km2 wasteland is ahead of you, clustered with bandits, heroes, flesh eating zombies and fellow survivors.

Play some new maps if you havent already!

I completely agree. I too played chernarus for months. I tried out namalsk and one or two others, but always went back to chernarus. I don't even need a map there anymore.

A friend made me start in Origins, as he wanted to build a house desperately. I played once or twice alone since. The nights are freaking dark. I don't know the map at all and all the new loot-types made it really hard for me. I don't know all the weapons yet. AI helicopters make you shit your pants whenever you hear the sound of a huey.

So again: try other maps!

When Rocket was in charge of the updates DayZ was awesome. Since then it's gradually been changed by the community devs to what we have now which is nothing like the original mod and has lost that feeling of being unique and different.

First it was thermal now with the removal of 50's it's turning into another generic fps.

Im currently messing around with submods like dayzero, dayz 2017, dayz+ and dayz epoch, and im getting the feeling youre describing in all of them, mostly from dayz 2017 for some reason, maybe it just fits me well. can definitely recommend trying out some of them, with dayz commander its damn easy to switch between which you wanna play

Did anyone else feel dayz had better immersion back when it first came out?

Honestly, When dayz mod was first released it felt so amazing. I didnt know where I was, I had no idea what to do, All I knew was I had to survive, The feeling of not knowing the map, And exploring is sadly gone for me. The feeling of when the zombies are near me, And that sad feeling of when I die is now gone.

I will be happy again when standalone is released and I can have that epic feeling again :)

I have that feeling of epicness everytime i play, How? well i play it like i'm the only one in the server (see i have 2 servers i play on) one is a base building vehicle server full of players and AI which is fun. The other server is Pure Vanilla this one i play like i'm the only one in it, i , My sig explains i detatch all player contact in there and play it like a pure survival game.

I liked it when it didn't feel like one giant open world deathmatch. I also liked it when not everyone knew every little thing about the map and the mechanics. Now everyone knows all the good spots for everything. I suck at the game because I can't devote enough time to it to get really good and everyone else just always seems to know where I am. Sure a lot of it has got to do with me sucking but I liked it better when a lot more people sucked too lol It's actually quite intimidating to play the game now
