poodude28 (DayZ) 36 Posted May 17, 2013 Did anyone else feel dayz had better immersion back when it first came out?Honestly, When dayz mod was first released it felt so amazing. I didnt know where I was, I had no idea what to do, All I knew was I had to survive, The feeling of not knowing the map, And exploring is sadly gone for me. The feeling of when the zombies are near me, And that sad feeling of when I die is now gone. I will be happy again when standalone is released and I can have that epic feeling again :)
voddler (DayZ) 367 Posted May 17, 2013 I know that feeling, I wish it was there forever but it just won't happen in the mod. Since you know everything and all hotspots you'll be able to get there without a single problem. Same goes with the zombies. I wish they'd be able to catch up to you after a while instead of you just running forever in Elektro/Cherno having over 20 zombies after you, it makes everything dull and boring looting a city in a few minutes without being careful. Guest Posted May 17, 2013 Leave the game for a while. Then when you come back you will be partially back to the old
OrLoK 16188 Posted May 17, 2013 Hello thereThere is another enormothread on this very subject, but I'll be damned if I can find it. When I do I'll merge this 'un with that 'un.As to the subject I think the prevalence of all the +300 vehicle/starting sniper rifle servers have dramatically lessened one's lifetime of enjoying the mod.RdgsLoK
Auslovich 48 Posted May 17, 2013 Yes, and that's because the game was new then. Happens to me for every game, just takes different periods of time for them all to get old.
OrLoK 16188 Posted May 17, 2013 Hello thereWith the release of the SA and lack of immediate modding I think folk will find that "scary" experience again.I think the mod does need tweaking and that R4Z0R is doing a damn fine job, but server hosts over "modding" the game too far one way or the other ruins it IMHO.I don't want super powerful Infected, nor do I want lots of leet gear. It's a difficult balancing act but I think the Dev team have got it right even if sometimes I may not personally agree with their choices. They do have it 95pc IMHO though.RgdsLoK
toxicsludge 406 Posted May 17, 2013 You know, you'll play SA and soon get bored of that too. When you experience everything a game has to offer, you get bored. That's life brother.
Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted May 17, 2013 I remember my first month of DayZ. It was exhilarating, like nothing I've ever played before. I haven't lost it, but it isn't as great as that first month. When the standalone comes out, how much time will we use to explore the new areas? Like Utes, the new military bases, towns, the expanded North. What about those of us who leave the mainland for the fruits of the all glorious Utes? We'll get those noob days back soon, my friends.
whitefur22 10 Posted May 17, 2013 DayZ is still fun to play for me. I just avoid the Cheaty servers and play on the ones I think are best. I have a lot of fun experiences in DayZ so its never REALLY boring.
SteelKnife 25 Posted May 17, 2013 Back when I used to play things on the ps2 the games felt like they lasted forever. In spyro I could skateboard all day.
Sutinen 635 Posted May 17, 2013 Yes.. It was mainly about survival and not: Run here and run there. I was scared of big cities and military camps when I started playing..
Mullraugh 1151 Posted May 17, 2013 Just you fellas wait. Right now less than half of Elektrozavodsk is lootable. Just wait until every single building in Chernarus has the ability to be looted or hid in.
rossums 2190 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) I feel the same way, but honestly it's down to having played it before.Back when you started it was all about exploring to find weapons, sneaking around in case anyone would appear BUT..now that you've played you know if you spawn in Kamenka you would go directly to Balota Airfield and medical camp, check the airfield then you know exactly where the farm loot is while you are walking to Chernogorsk and you already know the best loot will be at the fire station and the hospital area. The game loses a lot of the 'unknown' which plays a big part in DayZ, once you know what you are doing it's all just following a set path/method to gear up. declan223@gmail.com 271 Posted May 17, 2013 Yep I know the feeling, but Darryl Dixon is right; leave it for a couple of months a then start playing again, you sort of half lose your familiarity with the map.
Saethkept 134 Posted May 17, 2013 (edited) The amazing thing for me about DayZ - unlike so many other PC games, and I have been gaming on the PC for over twenty years - is that it has never grown stale in the same way as most other titles. Take some of the coolest games in PC gaming history - Wolfenstein, Heretic, Doom, Falcon 2, 3 and 4.0, System Shock, Quake, Daggerfall, Baldur's Gate, Half Life, etc. - as revolutionary as some of them were, the fun always ended at some point and I put them down. Not so with DayZ ... yet.DayZ encompasses to some degree the ultimate in freedom in PC gaming - especially for those of us who for so long back in the 90's were used to the linear corridor shooter/RPG. It is a game with no save system, with a massive open world, where no two encounters are ever the same and most anything can happen. Now, I will admit that after about six months of play some of the magic is gone. So it is with any other PC game I've played, and yet DayZ keeps drawing me back in. There are certain weapons I have yet to find, towns I have yet to fully explore, vehicles yet to fly or drive. In short there's still interesting stuff to be done. Do I hope some new mod or the standalone can revamp that original feeling? You bet. Until then I will keep playing, quite fondly remembering all the while that first time I logged into Chernarus. Edited May 17, 2013 by Saethkept

iegle 117 Posted May 18, 2013 I still remember every detail of my first character's life over 9 months ago now. I spawned in Three Valleys, agroed some zombies crossing the coast road, and ran for my life up the escarpment, finally losing the zeds. On the other side of the ridge I spotted a barn, and proceeded to spend the next 3 hours figuring out how to elude the zombies and get inside. The elation I felt when I found a hatchet in there was awesome.I took too long though, and started dying of thirst. I was forced to take more and more risks trying to find something to drink, and eventually got badly wounded by a zombie. With my vision failing and my throat burning from lack of drink I fled to the woods and died alone.I learned a valuable lesson about early post-spawn priorities.I still get sad when I die though. :) I have only died about a half-dozen times in 9 months, I do my best to stay alive at all costs. kflo01 5 Posted May 18, 2013 For me it was scarier but now that I know the game its not scary but its still very enjoyable. I like the PvP aspect of it now more than before. If you find the right server its great.I see more and more private hive adding custom things to their server to bring enjoyment into the game. Esp for players who have been around forever. Check out our hive you'll really love it.
barrance 22 Posted May 18, 2013 Play some new maps if you havent already! I played chernarus for a good 9/10 months before trying any other maps, as as soon as I did I totally recaptured the majority of that feeling! Maybe a little less excited to find a lee enfield, but walking around somewhere you dont know at all with no map or guns definitely brings a "shit the bed" feeling back! Ive now been playing taviana for a good month or two, and am only just beginning to get a bit jaded by it in the same way....next stop lingor!
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted May 18, 2013 I still love it all the same, however I am by far easily amused.
TheDesigner 1197 Posted May 18, 2013 Yes. When I used to play with the Walking Militia and we did organized raids on the NWAF at night, those were the times when DayZ was really immersive.

Powell (DayZ) 734 Posted May 18, 2013 When I first played, I remember vividly the real life adrenaline rushes I'd get whenever someone shot at me or whenever I pulled the trigger. The first firefight I got into was mind numbing. Now, it's just second nature: "ugh someone's shooting at me again..."Feeling is gone bro
