Melee weapons / Zombie kills and humanity

I would want a melee weapon just so that I can dispatch ONE zombie and not bring all the boys to the yard.

I didn't even start thinking about melee until the 1.5.7 patch. I was trying to figure out ways to deal with this many zombies as ammo in the early stages is limited. Having a melee system would be a great way to make up for this increased amount of zombies while still being practical.
