In brief, i'm sick of dying to survivors (not bandits) with itchy trigger fingers who make no attempt to befriend you or at least warn you off.

note: i'm hero skinned, generally don't go after other players and try to help passers by.

A simple choice for automated responses (call it a stance) for interacting with other players:

Friendly - weapon is 'holstered' (same as if double tapping Ctrl)

Neutral - weapon is as normal

Aggressive - weapon is shouldered

Survivor can be any stance

Hero can only be Neutral or Friendly

Bandit can only be Neutral or Aggresive

Stances will also change dynamically based on the players last encounter with another player, attacking a player will move you from Friendly to Neutral or Neutral to Aggressive and giving medical aid will move you from Neutral to Friendly or Agrressive to Neutral.

Below is an idea of how encounters would work, purely audio cues, for those not using an unmuted mic/ no mic.

The responses are just examples they could be almost anything. The approaching player talks first, then the response is after the / .

I think Rocket is looking into something similar for the standalone, where the default stance is lowered.

I'd really like to see holding a weapon raised affecting your stamina and accuracy. So if you raise your weapon for long periods, your aim will be affected. I'd also like to see running speed and distance affected by holding the weapon in your hands or shouldering your rifle or holstering your handgun. This will add a reason to travel in a less threatening manner.

I hardly ever get KOS'd in Cherno. I always break line of sight and find solid cover, which means I can't get easily shot and I can't easily shoot you. This defuses a little of the tension, when meeting a stranger and when people are carrying loaded guns, less tension is always good.

to be honest, there is not neutral stance, only friendly and agressive.Aiming your gun on someone automaticaly shows that you're ready to shoot, thats the only stance you need.Yes,double tap ctr if you want to be fwends, but prepare to die if they dont want to.Just do the old trick, keep your gun on the other guy and then lean left right with "Q"&"E".If they dont do the same in 5 seconds blow their head off or run away, always ready to shoot

Neutral is more visual, in the sense of my gun is pointed at you, rather than I'm aiming for your face. My point is i suppose the sheer lack of people willing to communicate makes gameplay rubbish, if you're playng with friends it doesn't matter i s'pose.

Last times I died(from a player and not getting bugged off a hospital roof) it was after they said "friendly".As soon as i aimed away they shot me.One thing this mod taught me is to never lower your gun.Unless the others demand it,don't do it.dont make yourself more vunerable. If the other guy holsters it as well, then do it and wish to draw faster if you have to.

Your OP is good but I don't think it'll ever happen on DayZ mod. Some will try it but most will rage and stop it after they meet players that shoot for fun. Now,if rocket implements in the standalone a key binding with the option to react Friendly/Neutral/Aggresive(like the 0-9 command i guess) with a cool animation, like holstering and wave for friendly, aiming low,but seem suspicious for neutral, and keep aiming to the other guy and just move your head a bit or something for agreesive, then even the fresh-spawn-killing kids will do it,or at least try it

Observing this, i'd just like to let you know bandits are likely to lure you in lies, shitty ones at that.

i don't think someone would go around letting you know they're going to try kill you.

these are purely aesthetical (sp?) as audio clips, the idea being that an audio cue at least gives you a minor warning as a players possible intentions. Of course people will lie and decieve i'd expect nothing less. My main point is voip/mic-usage should be heavily encouraged in DayZ, or the game will talk for you, add additional things like being chased by zombies "Omg I just wanna liiiiive!" etc.

People treat this game/mod like a deathmatch, why? why take an otherwise brilliant game/idea and ruin it. I'm genuinely stumped.

I appreciate the sentiment behind this but i really dislike the idea of having the game talk for the player,

The way the standalone is going with your gun being lowered by default and then needing to be raised to be fired is a lot simpler and would seem much more natural.

You can currently get an idea of someones intentions just by how they move around you and respond to you, people will lie and deceive but thats just part of the game. trust has to be earned.

Could not agree more with this statement.

"I'm friendly"

"i'm Friendly too" *turns around"

"FRESH MEAT THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE" *18 shots to the back of the head before you can say "BANDIT...FUCK"
