Right.

I play DayZ because I like the survival aspect of the game. It was my understanding that this is what Rocket had in mind. Surviving against the odds, fighting off zombies and the environment and other people to get by.

I've no issue with fighting other people. But only as far as the survival aspect of the game forces you into the position of conflict. You don't know who you can trust so there will be occasions where you end up fighting other survivors. That's fine and sensible and a natural part of the game.

However, it seems to me that fighting other people is pretty much the only real reason the vast majority of people play this game. I like it as a part of the experience, not as the primary focus. That's called ARMA...

Obviously, the mod cannot hold up this experience that I'm looking for in the PVE stakes because the zombies are manageable and the environment is otherwise safe as long as you keep some food and water on you... I'm hoping the SA will fix this by filling the environment with dangers, making weapons harder to come by, zombies becoming a bigger threat etc etc etc...

But as much as I think the SA will turn out to be more the game that I am hoping for. I hold VERY little hope it will become populated with people other than all the CoD/ARMA/CS/BF kiddies and griefing nobs.

Fed up and sad and those are my thoughts on the matter, these are the reasons I'm now giving up on the mod and why I quite probably won't play the SA.

Am I wrong? Am I expecting too much? Is this the wrong game? Is it *supposed* to be a PVP sandbox for kids to run around shooting each other because there aren't enough games like that already?

Going into the woods and surviving only off ponds and animals makes it more of a challenge. That way you can avoid PVP and occasionally rob a few people

With that said many resort to PVP as the environment has no longer posed a challenge to the players.

This. I used to panic like crazy when I got chased by zombies, now I just know if you keep moving they're harmless, players are now my only obstacle, and 9/10 times they're just gonna try and kill you anyway.

The problem is that survival is too easy, once you figure out how to get around the zombies, players become your only problem.

The standalone will fix this I hope as persistent zombies will make spotting players from afar much harder, as lets face it, if you're walking into say Cherno/Elektro/Berez from a high point and can see zombies further than 200m from you, chances are there's a player down there, and so you're on full caution going down, when zombies are everywhere, your only defence against players are your own wits and senses.

Making food and drink less common, as well as ammo should surely make survival more difficult, and reduce PvP, as whilst I have nothing wrong with people shooting each other, I know some people do play DayZ like a deathmatch, which does annoy me. If survival becomes more difficult, having a friend or partner should make survival a little easier.

But don't think I'm saying make PvP impossible, or survival on your own a non viable method, just more so make it more tempting to maybe conserve your ammo in the hope that the guy you didn't just kill may share some food/ammo with you, and help you find more.

As at the moment, the mindset is probably more, "I'm going to kill this guy, as I can just run into that small house over there and probably find another 3 mags for my Enfield as well as a load of food and drinks, he is only an obstacle".

I respect your point of view Diggydug and Fluxley. The same game can't be perfect for 'everyone', no matter how it will be, some of us will have to deal with it.

I take insult when you mention Counter Strike. But otherwise, I can relate. I'm hoping the devs put some challenge into the standalone other than players. It would sure improve the immersion.

No such thing as immersion in this game really. If you really want to improve player interactions and have it be as "immersive" as real life rather than a realstic version of Duck Hunt. Well... you gotta' make it mimic real life. There's a reason why people don't kill each other senselessly in real life.

You don't have jack-of-all trades in real life. One person can't fix cars, fix helicopters (and even fly it), gut animals, operate all sorts of weapons without any training, give blood transfusion, bandage properly, etc.

In real life, you find strength in numbers. You divide people into different skillsets and expertise and work as a collective group.

In DayZ, you have a one-man Swiss army commando that can do anything and everything. When you need no one else to do anything for you... why not play Duck Hunt? That's how most of the kids here think, myself included lol.

Also, the risk of dying is really nothing. Sure you lose your gear, but it's nothing that a few hours or days can't fix. Crash a copter or car? No big deal, a respawn is only a few seconds away. In real life, you get one chance, one life. You screwed up? Tough luck, no respawning and getting a brand new bag and a can of beans to boot.

Nuff' said.
