BattlEye refuses to work, I've tried everything!

Recommended Posts

I've fixed this, check post my last post for how I did it! ♥

Hi,

I've been having problems with Arma 2/DayZ ever since I downgraded from Windows 8 to 7. Every time I connect to a server, it says "BattlEye Initialization failed"!

I've tried nearly everything:

-Replacing the BattlEye Client/server files in Steam\Steamapps\Common\Arma 2\BattlEye and Common\Arma 2 Operation Arrowhead\Expansion\BattlEye

-Replacing the BattlEye files in my Appdata folder

-Running the installer again for BattlEye

-Verifying the integrity of the game cache through Steam (for both games, multiple times)

-100% reinstalling both games, as well as any debris left behind in Appdata

I cannot think of anything else that would work. This is extremely frustrating, I am at my wit's end.

Any help would be appreciated! ♥

Are you running any anti virus? if so that could very well be blocking the BE update.

No sir, this is a fresh install of Win7 aside from Firefox, Steam, Skype and DayZ. Is Windows Firewall causing problems, perhaps? I'll try disabling it really quick, one moment...

EDIT - No dice, disabled Windows Firewall and it still gives me the same error.

when your trying to let it update, you are just sitting in the lobby right?

I don't even get into the lobby, I click a server in Commander and it shows the DayZ loading screen for ~10 seconds. A box comes up saying BattlEye Initialization Failed", I click okay and it takes me to the main menu again.

I have no idea why this is happening, it worked just fine in Windows 8...

how very odd, id try launching the game through the settings in commander, and searching using the ingame function, sit in the lobby and see what happens.

Sure thing, I'll give it a shot really quick. Will report back with results ♥

EDIT - Uh, I can't even get into the lobby through the game either it seems... I tried a vanilla server, DayZ and Wasteland, it boots me to the main menu before I even see the lobby with the same error!

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts ;-;

Hello there

have you run the games individually first before attempting to run the mod?

Sure have, I've started each game and played about 5ish minutes each. I have no idea what the problem is at this point, 100% out of ideas...

All I can think of now is that it isn't a problem with BattlEye's files or Arma 2, after reinstalling both numerous times... Is it a CD-key issue? Is there a way to see if it's in use by someone else or banned? That's all I can think of, the last time I played was all of 12 hours ago...

EDIT - AHA! It seems that I currently have 1.62 installed, but nearly all of the servers are requesting 1.62.10029. Does anyone know where I can download this version? Thanks so much in advance ♥

EDIT^2 - And now it says 1.62.95248 on the main menu? That isn't the problem then, this is getting really frustrating...

SOLVED!

For anyone else having this problem: if you have any special characters in your username, you have to change it in order for the game to work properly. For example, my username was "Connor ♥", the problem fixed itself by renaming my profile in Windows to "Connor". To do this:

1. Go into your User Account settings and create an administrator account

2. Change the name of your account to something else, with NO special/foreign characters

3. Log off from your account and log into the administrator account

4. Navigate to C:\Users and rename the folder to whatever you renamed your account to

5. Open the registry editor (Start>"regedit")

6. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

7. Right-click that value and select Find

8. Enter your old username in the search box and press Enter, then double-click the ProfileImagePath value

9. Enter the new username, press Okay, close the editor, log out, log into your new* account and presto!

Hope that helps someone else, I was pulling my hair out over this one.
