My old computer was trash, and i could never play this game because my specs were terrible, even though i've always wanted to play it, but yesterday i went out and bought a really nice one and now i can, so basically my questions are

1) how do i start playing

2) how much does it cost to play?

Costs you a copy of arma combined operations which is not very pricey on steam 24.99 http://store.steampo...d.com/sub/4638/

Once you have that download dayz commander http://www.dayzcommander.com/ the mod itself is free this will control all your updates and so forth for dayz.

EDIT: There is no cost to play i.e. monthly fees like some mmo's if that is what you are refering to.

I recommend playing and getting used to ArmAII and how it works before diving head first into the zombie apocalypse. Try some quick training missions if you want to learn fast.
