I know this has been suggested before.

But as is my way, I feel the need to suggest it in more depth than has been previously done:

Players die all the time in DayZ. Constantly. What's the average life expectancy? 1 hour, 9 minutes? Yeah. And think about how many of those bodies go unlooted...

Here is my suggestion:

If a player dies, his body has 30-60 minutes before he rises again as a zombie (NOT controlled by the player). The zombie has all the traits of the players worn gear (helmet, vest, et cetera), and negative traits (like stiff joints from tetanus, or crawling because the player died with broken legs) persist.

Whatever primary weapon was equipped, the backpack, and the tool belt all fall off, either at the time of becoming a zombie (the zombie isn't going to pick up an assault rifle) or as it crawls/shuffles around (a zombie isn't going to fight to keep a back pack on).

Pros:

1. Players will have much harder times looting their own bodies (you have to track it down and kill it!)

2. Very interesting zombie hordes

Cons:

1. Server has to keep track of a zombie potentially filled with containers (jackets, pants, backpack, et cetera)

2. Server has to calculate and make the zombie "Drop" the items without an animation (zombies don't gently place items on the ground)

Ignoring the fact that we (survivors) might not be able to get infected because we're immune, as an actual gameplay mechanic I really like it.

Who says that in-life immunity persists after death? What if its the existence of bacteria that fights the virodisease that dies when we do? Like, it's in the stomach, and when it can no longer act as an enzyme for breaking down food, it starves? Have your cake and eat it too party pooper.

You can't beat me. No one can. I'M UNSTOPPAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAABLE... except for spawning and dying 4 times in a row via asshole bandit AI.

Canonically it still wouldn't work because this plague doesn't involve reanimation.

The sarcasm in the post, "Sorry, I watch good shows" was implying that I do not watch the Walking Dead because I only watch good TV shows, or in other words, I think TWD is a giant piece of crap. It's literally 2 seasons of either walking or standing around a table having a meeting, then a season finale that's fear-monger gorey. What's the appeal in the snoody Asian bitch, a self-righteous pregnant slut, a cop, and their friends?

Did I say anything about reanimation? I'm merely suggesting that the enzyme/disease-inhibitor has to die. My post was too suggestive that death would be required.

Dean has already talked about why this is a problem.

Well now, I could say the exact same thing about a ton of other things.

I could easily say that; DayZ is just 100 miles of walking around finding random trash tin cans and getting sniped by overpowered bandits wielding sniper rifles from 20 miles away in the hills of a city, listening to endless spammers in the side chat. What's so great about exactly-the-same people wearing baseball caps who shoot each other off the basis of nothing and get easily killed by infected who can teleport through walls and hit you through the floor?

Luckily I don't feel that away about either the show or DayZ and it's really just that everyone has a right to an opinion.

You said that the player would become a zombie after they die.

If that's not reanimation then I have no idea what you're talking about.

I get the main point is that the zombies would have a large portion of the gear the player had, though.

Now, Apple, I actually like this idea you have here. It would be cool to see but like Fraggle said, the survivors are immune to infection. However if something changes in SA and survivors end up not being immune, then this idea would be really cool to see.

I like the idea as well, but there also is still the problem: How does the virus revive dead people which were immun before?

I like the idea, but it's not really easy to do. Rocket explained this in the previous devblog, so I'll explain it here.

Zombies are one model in the standalone. The clothes, the head, the feet, the arms, the legs are all one model. Players are different.

Players clothes are all different models. They're separate. There's a huge difference between zombies and players.
