Difference between hatchet and axe

I was in another thread and this point was brought up.

We shouldn't have to suffer 6-10 inventory slots just to harvest wood.

I implore that we have a difference between hatchets and axes.

Axes:

-Have the same functions as the hatchet

-Works as a primary weapons like it does now

Hatchets:

-Is an equipment item like it used to be

-Able to harvest wood like in previous versions

-Unable to be wielded

The current axe setup is too much of a pain in the ass honestly.

or the old hatchet could be replaced by something like a camp saw, the simplest versions are just a chainsaw blade with a handle on either side.

We need the old hatchet back. I'm not wasting precious space for a melee weapon that I only use to get wood.
