Help with installing DayZ

Recommended Posts

So,i almost punched my PC because of how many times i had to reinstall the games.

So,i have ArmA 2 bought from a shop a couple of years ago,i bought ArmA2 :OA through steam a few months ago.Now i see DayZ is on steam.I allways end up getting a error msg i can't show it because i uninstalled everything. So,can any of you possibly tell me what files must i put where,in what order what i must install and what and so on because im so sick of trying without succes to play this mod and i really wanna play it with my friends .

If there's any other way of playing the game without using my original copy of ARma then so be it,but please show me

That's the problem in your first sentence. You have to have bought Arma II: Combined Operations, I'm 99.9% sure of that.

Sorry you are in that situation dude.

Not to mention another reason it might not be working is because you said you bought one in a shop, do you mean a copy you hold in your hand or one your got off steam, because if you can hold that disk that is a really good indication you will never get it working unless you get combined operations.

^^Ignore every word of that, it's very, very wrong, you don't need to have bought Combined Operations. Also, having one retail-hard copy and one on Steam doesn't matter. Combined operations is just Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead combined, you already own both so you should be good to go.

Uninstall everything and follow these steps to the letter and you should be sorted in no time, it's actually pretty straight forward but there's so much confusing advice knocking around it can be baffling if you're new:

1. Run ArmA II. Wait until you can see the main menu, then quit.

2. Do the same for Arma II: Operation Arrowhead. (following these two steps means that both versions will combine)

3. Download and install the latest version of DayZCommander (it's free): http://www.dayzcommander.com/ (use this link, DO NOT download it from any other sources).

5. Update your ArmA II beta patch to the latest edition.

6. Install the latest version of DayZ (Or a previous version if you intend to join a server running it).

8. SHAZZAAAM!!! You can now join a a server using Commander to find one. I advise using our forums to find a good server, there's tons of shite ones out there run by dodgy admins with massive ego's.

7. [OPTIONAL] Install any add-on maps you wish you play on.

Let me know how you get on, PM me if you need to.

I didn't give up,i just didn't have time to do it.I'll follow every step you guys gave me,except the 1st reply.

Arma 2 i have to update first from 1.00 to 1.05 then from 1.05 to 1.11 right?

Also,ArmA 2 is installed in Program Files while ARmA 2:OA is installed in steamapps in Program Files(x86).Do i have to move them in the same folder or something?

Also,i somehow managed to install it last year, but i really don't remember a thing!

Yup, go for it. It's been a long time since I updated Arma 2 so TBH I can't remember if you need to install just the latest patch or update them one after the other, it should explain on the patch notes though.

(A-team music on stand-by for a successfull install)

yeah you have to install them in order they will only patch from a set version. no you wont have to move the files just run both games to the menus while running steam as admin

after install the arma2 patch and dayz from dayz commander click in the settings and change the paths to the correct locations and you will not have to move any files

@Fraggle its on pause awaiting that precious moment :)
