Elite Makarov Bambi 0 Posted April 29, 2013 Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a brief search and didn't see any similar topics.I've always loved creating maps. A few games in the past have presented this option (san andreas multiplayer, america's army 2 - unreal engine 2) and I've literally made hundreds of maps in them. I guess it has something to do with the lifelong dream of mine to be a developer, who knows :DSo the question is, are there any plans to have something like that in the S.A.? It doesn't even have to be user friendly, I am willing to learn a very rough system. When I first picked up DayZ, it was very fun to play chernarus because I didn't know what was on the map. There was literally weeks of exploring to do. Now I can pretty much navigate the whole area without a map and a compass :D . Not saying the default map isn't fun anymore, I just play for different reasons now.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted April 29, 2013 On release there definitely won't be anything like this. Maybe one day though.
Michaelvoodoo25 3120 Posted April 29, 2013 I have (as have many) asked for this before but I suppose intelectual property rights could be infringed upon eventually with people importing and exporting their own data / ModelsHmmm... With rocket away and paid staff on the books, I wonder why not? If you have the staff there why not make a map editor? Let them concentrate on the Architecture while the others complie a map editor you already have. Can you imagine the lifespan of the product? it will be going for years after release, I would make maps till my hearts content. the community would grow exponetially and we as fans would be more powerful than the WOW crowd, I cannot see a bad thing to this idea. Yes there will be loads of really terrible maps, but there will be lots of good ones too. I only used to play games with editors as I could get my Moneys worth and prolong and game I liked. If we get updates through the year the options are endless!I would even pay a premium price for a Map Editor for DayZ (Game £20 Map Editor £40), Imagine this BIS! more revinue and only serious people would purchase it for the benefit of the community! I am willing to learn and intelligent enough to understand how to! (As are most)Come on and smell the beans, give us a Map Editor.
King Tubbs 224 Posted April 29, 2013 rocket said yes at some point there will be full modding tolls (inc map editor) but this will not happen until they are 100% that the game is safe from hackers when they doso i could be quite some time

Private Evans 1303 Posted April 29, 2013 (edited) To create a map you have to use the BI tools (2.5.1) since this is what they actually used for creating Arma/DayZ.. You even can use the current resources and replace them later on with the new SA models. It is not a problem to mod DayZ SA but to get the mods running with it because of the new server/client architecture. person915 345 Posted April 29, 2013 (edited) Why not just gather those who want this, and write a third party program that can develop a map readable by the game? If the software created, edited, and made the map file outside of the game, in effect it's as if you've just replaced the Chernarus map and ran the game and there would be no breaches or opportunities for breaches in security. Not to mention they don't need to use time or resources to develop the software. Be a big plus for them. Edited April 29, 2013 by McCullins
