Anyone else using TrackIR?

Recommended Posts

Yep.

My standard rig is 3 screen, float aimpoint and TIR5... peripheral vision tastic. (built the machine for FSX and DCS)

I have a few problems with it though. With the 3 screens I normally use about 1:2 ratios for rotation. (45 degree change willl get me 90 on the screens which is awesome since I'm still looking at a display head on.)

Head forward and backward zoom on the other hand 'feels' non linear. (I feel i have to sit too far forward to 'look' so to speak and when done I don't feel as If i can sit comfortably to regain my previous POV ~ its an axis control thing and a real pain in the ass to get right..)

Head bob as default?

Fuck me, I drink enough as it is, Head bob and TIR? that's vomit tastic, It's incredibly disorientating when your viewpoint is bobbing all over the place and 'yet' your head isn't moving. (DON'T DO THIS AT HOME FOLKS)

Floating aimpoint and TIR? :-) Thats awesome but can be confusing.

Honestly my biggest problem with TIR is the weird assed way it goes mental the odd time and how fecken delicate the join is on the clip. (2 cables on your headset is a pain in the ass.)

I've lost count as to how often I've pulled the pro clip out of its socket and left it dangling by wires..

Seriously, we get magnetic connects on the transmitter and the receiver is hard wired?.... Guys.. Please.

I'm not using it in DayZ, not suited to the close combat with the infected...imho.

I just dont see an enable option in the controller settings. I must be looking in the wrong spot.

Somewhere in your options' date=' perhaps your controls... I can't tell you know as i'm not on my computer... It took me a long wall before I found it though :D If you can't find it, ask on the BIS forum topic in the link I gave.

To those who don't own a TrackIR' date=' you can try FaceTrackNOIR. It for free and only requires a webcam:

Thanks, it looks like a good piece of software. I'm confused though since if you look away from the screen to look right, how are you gonna see the screen/game?

Keep your eyes on the screen LOL. You can adjust the sensitivity of the movement, so bv. only turn your head a small bit and make a big movement ingame or the other way around.

I've only tested it so I know it works fairly well. I don't have a webcam (used my dad's), so I can't use it. There's a shortcut as well that allows you to turn it on/off anytime you want. Very cool when you fly helicopters!!

Couldn't agree more; I have been using TIR 5 for quite some time, and I love that Arma 2 and Day Z make use of it.

It is particularly helpful when scouting or sniping; the ability to articulate your head independently from your body makes you much harder to spot. It adds great immersion when sneaking around in cities too.

In my group I am the only one using trakir. As we cross mountains etc, I'm the one in the group who seems to always spot the choppers or cows or sheep etc

Trakir helps quite a lot in this game and yeh, covering a door with your gun while still being able to look around is perfect.

Two night ago I was covering my friends in the south west airfield with a sniper rifle. I killed a few guys who where coming near my pals. Eventually some guy with a pistol must have spotted my position. The only thing that saved me was trakir as I saw him coming in at me before I could even hear him. When I stood and swung my rifle in his direction he couldnt get away from me fast enough lol. I let him go and moved to another spot.

I, too, use a 3 monitor setup and I agree with the poster who said it takes a bit to turn all the way around and feels a little off-putting, but tiker with the settings a bit and you'll find it much better... kind of like when i started DCS A10 and i needed to really tinker to see the radio controls easily.

As for the naysayer who felt it isnt good for close combat. I see your point, but you can disable it quickly if needed. I have a mousebutton on my G5x that i set to disable it temporarially
