Fastest way to switch weapon in your hand with weapon in your bag?

Recommended Posts

Imagine you're just scavenging some place and you want to keep it quiet so you take your hatchet off your tool belt and put your Lee Enfield rifle in your bag. Everything his going smooth until you're getting shot at by a trigger-happy bandit. You duck into cover and on top of getting shot at, you must wrestle with DayZ's atrocious UI. Situations like this raise the question, what is the fastest way to get that hatchet in your hand into your bag and that Lee Enfield rifle out of your bag and into your hands? Thanks in advance.

Simple

1 Open Inventory

2. Double click axe (so you just drop it) do you really care about your axe in a gunfight? you can always go back and get it if you survive

3. Open bag and double click rifle

Surely the fastest way?

Edit - Come to think of it, I dont think I have ever had an axe in my hand and then tried to remove a weapon out my bag through fear of said weapon being deleted

The trick with moving weapons from your bag to your main, is to go into your bag, and move the gun from your bag into your main, and never the opposite, otherwise you'll lose the gun in your main.

As for moving the hatchet? You can do the same. But I'd personally just move it into my tool belt

it's all about where you are.If you're in a popular area,I dont think that a hatchet should be equiped at all.But if you HAVE to do it,run behind cover, double click hatchet, double click your pack, click on the enfield and exit the pack.if you survive you can pick up your axe later,or take his if he got one

As the inventory screen always opens in the same place on your screen, it seems possible to create a macro that does the mouse movement and click operations. What you'd need to do is "in-game" mark with post-it notes on your screen exactly where your axe, pack, open/close pack clickable areas are on your monitor screen. Then, out of game, record your macro of all the necessary motions binding it to a key combination (Function key?) Voila!

You just open gear menu, open your bag and move the weapon from your bag into your inventory and they'll swap places. Much faster and you don't drop a weapon. :)

Why would you want to fill up your backpack with your only firearm when looting?

Not only are you reducing your room for loot, but you then have to suffer the capricious inventory system while under fire.

I don't see why everyone hates the inventory system in ArmA...I've grown attached to it myself.

do what mZLY said^ go into your bag, double click your gun, and it'll quickly swap places with your hatchet - gun in hand, hatchet in pack. Remember though that this quick-swap only works if you move items FROM your backpack to your hand not the other way around. I hope this gets patched. Hell, I'd prefer if you could just swap to hatchet when it's on the toolbelt.

Mainly because it's a real pain in the arse for new players, it's absolutely fine once you know your way around it though.

I also hate how you have to drop your ammo, then place a rifle in your backpack (You have 10 free slots in your backpack and you have the rifle in your hands). There's no "selectivity", it just straight dumps the mags in your backpack and destroys them. RRAAH

I can understand that much. I've always had a saying, "If you can open your gear on the first day, you're doing a damn good job."

xD

I was fine with the main inventory on the first day, I think the backpack and moving items between the two areas took a little while though...

the only thing i still do,is when i wanna change from my assault rifle to my sniper, and im trying to place my gun in my full bag first, ending up despawning it.still not used to that.but if you got arma 3,you'll hate that the changed the buttons and "G" throws a nade while "I" is for inventory.i think you can change the bindings, but many teamkills have happened by that

Actually happened to me on the first game of playing... Everyone was getting geared up, I pressed "G" thinking it opened my gear, ended up getting 3/5 team kills. Fml

Would be nice to have the possibility to get your rifle on a sling and to swap between:

  • handgun
  • main weapon
  • melee weapon

without the need to drop anything or to do the juggler with backpack and inventory...all in all for the handgun you actually have the holster, for the rifle there's a sling and for hatchet the toolbelt.
