iPewPewU 5 Posted April 28, 2013 Hello guys,I bought arma II about a week ago ! And I have some questions. First here's what I know about like a week of gameplay:Controls, Overall map ( main cities like cherno, elektro, stary, the airports etc ), loot % for guns I like, drop after x meters for certain guns, spawn of some vehicles etcWhat I don't know and would like to know as it seem the most important to me:. How do you know the distance ( in meters ) between you and something ( a target for example ? ) since most guns shots drop after x meters depending on the gun ?. When do you loots ''change'' in a military barrack for example ?. Can you get blood if you're alone ( i was told cooked meat give blood ) ?. Is there somewhere I can check for most of the sniper spots on the populated cities ?. Is there tanks or fortified vehicles in this game ( on vanilla or only in private hives, as I saw some in a video on youtube ) ?Thanks for your help !:)
dulix11 731 Posted April 28, 2013 1- Its just an estimate. Use a rangefinder to see how far away a target is then zero your gun out to that distance.2- I don't understand what you mean. The loot resets when the server restarts, but I don't think the loot changes, unless the devs change the loot table.3- Yes, I think all food gives you 100(?) blood back.4- You could walk there if thats what you mean.5- Only on modified servers. None in vanilla DayZ.
ionicpaul 27 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) 1. You can use mil-dots on a sniper, which takes some practice. You can also eyeball it. For a cheap way to do it, you can go on your map and shift-click on your target's location (if he's standing still) to make a nav-point on him, giving you how many meters away he is from you. If you're lucky, you can also find a rangefinder, which is essentially a pair of binoculars that gives you an exact location at whatever you're looking at.2. If I'm understanding what you're asking, loot respawns when a loot spawn (an individual location where a pile of loot can spawn) is empty, and a certain amount of time has passed. I'm not sure on the exact time, or if there is, though.3. Eating food gives you blood, but unless it's cooked meat, not very much. Canned food gives you 200 blood, pistachios/trail mix give you 100, raw meat gives you around the same (but don't eat it because you can get sick), and cooked meat ranges from 400 to 1200 blood, depending on the animal it comes from.4. Elektro has a hill behind the power plant which is a common sniper spot. I don't like to go to Cherno, so I'm not much help there.5. There are no tanks or heavy vehicles by default, unless you count the heavily armored (and unbelievably rare) MI-8 helicopter. herrjon 478 Posted April 28, 2013 1- There's many methods, setting a waypoint, using your iron-sights and practicing in Armory, rangefinders. I belive DayZGuideZ on youtube has a guide for it.2- Not sure about the current mechanic exactly, but I know for the next patch it said it will clear out and start a new cycle every 15 min there isn't a player near it.3- Meat gives you varying amounts of blood, and doesn't happen immediately, it regens over time after eating. Alternatively, you can come to TMW for help #shamelessadvertizing4- I could list all the spots, but when entering an area just get in the habit of scoping things out. See what would be good sniping locations and scan for snipers, see if there's anyone in town, etc. So long as you're concealed and not dying of hunger/thirst, don't feel rushed to get into town, wait for the right time.5- No, and for good reason. Rage VG 4033 Posted April 28, 2013 For all of these, I'm going to assume you're talking about Vanilla DayZ.1. Guess, or get a pair of Rangefinders.2. Loot respawns upon a server restart. It will take random items from the loot table for that spot, never another. You'll never get military spawns in a hospital.3. The only ways to regain blood without dying are bloodbags and eating food. cooked meat heals more than any other food.4. Use the DayZ Loot Map to find where everything spawns. Be warned, it kind ruins the fun of finding them yourselves.5. Only helicopters.
-Gews- 7443 Posted April 28, 2013 (edited) . How do you know the distance ( in meters ) between you and something ( a target for example ? ) since most guns shots drop after x meters depending on the gun ?At shorter ranges it doesn't matter, you can judge it by eye, at longer ranges you'll want a rangefinder, you can also use the mil dots on the scopes to estimate, some servers have nametags (icky) which give you an exact range, other servers let you mark waypoints on the map which will give you a range.About drop... bullets drop at the same rate, the difference is that some bullets move a lot farther in the same timeframe...A Winchester bullet traveling 200 meters takes longer to get there than a 5.56 bullet, so it will drop more because it takes longer to get there. All bullets are dropping all the time though, but it might not seem like that due to..."Zeroing"Many guns have a fixed range they are zeroed at, meaning the bullet hits your line-of-sight at that range. Guns with sights set for a shorter distance will seem to have far more drop at longer ranges, but guns with sights set for long distances will shoot too high at close ranges. Some guns have adjustable sights. herrjon 478 Posted April 28, 2013 ???Every server I've been on, the regen from eating is instantaneous.Might be the case, haven't relied on meat to heal for a long time now, I was just going off of what other people have reported and patch notes. But the point is, food gives you blood, so eat it if you're hurt.
JeffDetroit 717 Posted April 28, 2013 Love the diagrams Gews. If the survivors were THAT skinny, they would definitely be harder to hit! For getting used to shooting at distances, it does make sense to practice in the Arma2 editor/armory (or on DayZ servers that give you the ranges on tags). I prefer the axe, the range finder is easier to use and it doesn't run out of ammo!
iPewPewU 5 Posted April 28, 2013 Ok thanks guys for helping ! I Mostly play on vanilla private hives or origins ( 4 hours cicle <3 ) so I guess if I want to see tanks i'll have to log onto origins server more often. Oh, and the diagram was great for explaining, thanks !
