Day Z Player database ? Streaming question..

Recommended Posts

Hey,

First of all I need to say that I never actually played Day Z. I watched couple streams and I'm kind addicted to gameplay overall, I played little bit of Arma 2 couple years ago but that's all. Before I start playing any online/competitive game I like to know how huge is player database. Are numbers in Day Z keep increasing, decreasing or they are on some level all the time ? Is it hard to find good servers with a lot of people ?

Also, I'm gamer on youtube for couple years already, I started with streams like couple months ago but I didnt had proper microphone with good quality for streaming and internet, now when I'm able to stream singleplayer games (checked), I would like to know is it possible to stream Day Z with 2mb upload ? I would set around 1500kbps bitrate, speed is stable on 2mb but I'm worried about ingame ping ? Also I do know that 3 or 4 mb upload would be better but keep on mind that I'm not a partner, so without option for viewers to change quality, it wouldnt be good to set higher bitrate (even though I have in plan to get 4mb upload during summer).

I will appreciate any answer or try to help..

Greetings,

dsr07mm

It's on and off; sporadic.

Servers with a high population are fairly easy to find. (depending on the map you choose to play on. I assume you play on Chernarus)

DayZ has considerably slowed down on its acquiring of new players from several months ago, but look at how many "Is it worth buying the game now or waiting?" threads that get started every single day. I see at least 2, and I'm here pretty frequently. So yes there's a large player base (when did they break 2 million unique players?), and it is still growing.

Ok thanks guys. I just bought Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA, looking forward to install games and dayz mod. Hopefully I will be able to stream with 2mb upload without ingame lag. Thanks for info once again, I just found that statistic is available on site aswel, so I apologize for opening this thread.

There's plenty of people out there playing, you just may have to find the right server that has the map and playtime that you want with the amount of players you're looking for. Usually 0-10 players you'll mostly be dealing with zeds maybe bumping into someone in a hotspot, 10-20, you will find someone in a hotspot, 30-40, it's hard to go somewhere important without finding someone, 40+, PvP deathmatch. Take your pick.

I wouldn't know about the streaming thing, I've only dabbled, but I know Arma II is a very taxing game on your computer and most struggle to reach the 30-60 fps without recording or streaming, so make sure you have a good computer, especially a good CPU.

This really.

People struggle to even play the game, let alone record/stream it. Your fps will take a hit (as you know), so be prepared for that. Make sure your fps is high enough to begin with, which for many players simply isn't the case.

I'd say that Dayz has already reached its peak as more and more people stop playing. Then again, there are also still people who only just start playing (like you). You should definitely go for it! The Dayz mod is a great and unique (probably even next to the SA) experience. I've been playing it since its been out and I still love playing it!

Remember to test you upload speed before you try streaming. Do not use speedtest.net as it is not a fair representation to your true upload. I recommend using testmy.net as it will give a more accurate speed to base your settings on. If you are using OBS to stream, take your estimate from testmy and input that into http://obsproject.com/estimator to see what you setting should be. This is just info I found while researching streaming and is what I used to set up my stream. I use Dxtory and OBS to stream. I forgot to add a link to finding out what server to use for Twitch here is a small program I used to select the best ping for me. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=326034
