bas_tera@hotmail.com 3 Posted June 19, 2012 Food and water,What in my experience is the essence of survival, is getting food, water and shelter. Now it is ofcourse already implemented that we need to eat to survive, but i think it's currently to easy to get food and water. In many cases i dropped my water bottle to make room for ammo because i knew i was going to Find plenty of cans of soda. This doesnt seem right to me, the struggle for water and food should be at least or even more important than getting a gun.Same goes for food, right now you can live on beans, while you only use meat to replentish blood. Therefore my suggestion is to tone down the amount of beans and soda spawning, and make finding a lake, well or an animal alot more important.Make it so, that Finding à can of food is just like finding that makarov when you have just respawned.Tldr; less cans of food and water, more emphesis on wells, lakes and animals.Survival is all about finding food and water.Another thing that would be great, is something like a can opener for the cans of food. And having to boil the water to get rid of bacteria. xBlackCat 1 Posted June 19, 2012 It certainly doesn't seem like a terrible idea. As the game is right now, i don't even think about food, i automatically come across it while looking for other things. As long as I make sure to keep one or two of each at all times I've had no issues.
Bunster 7 Posted June 19, 2012 There is high amounts of food about tbf, makes it less of a challange
Fiskbatch 6 Posted June 19, 2012 I agree completely. I don't want it to be too rare, though. More animals, water refill sources and less soda/cans.
mansen 1 Posted June 19, 2012 Considering how much food you need to replenish your blood - no. The spawn rates are just fine as they are.
fundan@gmx.de 82 Posted June 19, 2012 The expereince with the bugged food in 1.7.1 was rather good than bad - I think less food/water would be a step in the right direction.
xBlackCat 1 Posted June 19, 2012 Considering how much food you need to replenish your blood - no. The spawn rates are just fine as they are.I guess I've never noticed that aspect of food because I'm almost always with a friend and blood packs aren't terribly hard to find. bas_tera@hotmail.com 3 Posted June 19, 2012 Considering how much food you need to replenish your blood - no. The spawn rates are just fine as they are.Well in order to replentish blood you should be forced to get blood packs or hunt, has your bloodlevel ever risen because you ate some beans? sgtsnug 26 Posted June 19, 2012 I forward you to this post which makes hunger and thirst have more meaning and makes the player need to eat and drink more often as a result there for needing to consume these vast supplies.http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=9402&pid=144544#pid144544
Euphe 1 Posted June 19, 2012 I recently made a thread about that. I am all for reducing the amount of food and ammo.

Eating DOES help recover your blood but on a much slower scale than in real life. In fact the ONLY realistic way to get back blood is via blood bags - blood bags that have obviously gone bad in the time from when they were still in a functional refrigerator unit and till you picked it up and kept it at +room temperatures for days. Odhelm 0 Posted June 19, 2012 I totally agree with this thread.. I think the lack of food and water brings out the paranoia element in the game even more. Im not the one to random kill people but if my food gauge is ticking and Im desperate for food, hell yeah, I'll kill for it! ^^

However, in order to both encourage teamplay and increase the paranoia and challenge in solo play, food sources have to be toned down! What is the challenge in survival when food is everywhere? You don't go on a survival trip (bear gryls style) expecting to find glorious food everywhere do you? We need to be happy to find even one can of food, not say "oh ffs, not another stash of food, i need a friggin map now!" NO! we should be happy to find some food, a sheep or a water well. deepfried 95 Posted June 19, 2012 +1this is needed to ensure this is a survival game and not merely a pvp sandbox.Essential.
Virfortis 111 Posted June 19, 2012 Food water and rifle ammo need a major nerf. I can see sidearm ammo being slightly nerfed, but not the the point of making it impossible.
GraphX 1 Posted June 19, 2012 less food + less ammo would be bad.if you aren't able to kill Zombies that are in the way of a can of food and you need to eat at that moment it will just be an annoyance rather than paranoia.i don't want to see people in chat say "sigh im dying because i have no food""ahh well ill die, lets mess around" << this will break the emersion from the game. n4ndoz 20 Posted June 19, 2012 The beans problem would be solved by adding the need of some kind of can-opener.You will find a lot of beans, but you can only open them with a item that is more rare, and the will be broken after some uses.
deepfried 95 Posted June 19, 2012 less food + less ammo would be bad.GraphX its a survival game, and survival hinges on the availability of consumables such as food and drink, ammo, and meds. Thus when balancing the gameplay modifying the spawn behaviour of these consumables will make the difference between the success or failure of DayZ as a survival game.If consumables are too common its not a survival game anymore, just a pvp sandbox arena with loot. If consumables are not common enough then it will become frustrating. the right balance is everything.

x0pticLukeZz 0 Posted June 20, 2012 Tldr; less cans of food and water' date=' more emphesis on wells, lakes and animals.Survival is all about finding food and water.[/quote']They'd definitely have to increase the spawn rate of at least matches and possibly hunting knives if animals are going to be the chief source of food. Think about it.. you need to find:1. An animal2. A gun to kill it3. A knife to gut it4. A wood pile or hatchet5. Matches to light a fireThat's a lot of searching around, a lot of zombies, possibly a lot of lost blood and definitely starving before you've done it all. Beans are necessary. vladdie 0 Posted June 20, 2012 + 1 for lowering the amount of food and soda in the world, I always plan my routes on the map so I go past a pond or if need be, go into a town to look for a well. Not sure about ammo, nothing is more annoying if you aggro a zed and have nothing to kill it with (though I know shooting should be your last resort).
