What's the current state of hacking?

I used to play this game a lot, but it got really popular really quickly and suddenly there was this tipping point where the hackers won. If you played for 2 hours, it was gauranteed that you, and everyone else on the map would be warped to a given location and killed by a hacker. Does this still happen frequently?

Private hives with good protection like Steak and Potatoes said will have a no or a very small amount of hackers. I play on the BMRF server and I haven't seen one hacker there, in-fact I haven't seen a hacker in a long time on other servers.

I play on public and have only ever seen one hacker, so even finding a good public will help. Been thinking of listing on BB though, I'd recommend doing that.

usually I stay away from higher population public servers because hackers tend to go on and kill everyone, low population should be safer. Private hives are usually safe.

Private is the way to go for the mod. It probably won't change too much anytime soon for high-pop public servers.

I think it's still there in general, but hackers have gotten more discreet. Fewer cows on parachutes, mass teleports, or hacked cars trailing rainbow-colored smoke.

I've only been subject to two hacking incidents.

One where 40+ players were pinned to the ground and killed by huge explosions on UK 498 ... I saw it as reasonable to combat log and saved my hide.

Another where I was followed by an invisible buffoon on DE 4713 (I think it was) from the supermarket at Vybor to the ATV spawn north of NWAF. Some script called you_dont_love_me_no_more or something like that, injected through the server mission file.

On other occasions it has been the consequences I have seen, mainly destroying and despawning all vehicles and tents, because the culprit can't find what they want and can't spawn anything in.

What bothers me much more than hacking and probably often uses hacking as a cover or excuse? Admin abuse. Ever seen the cheat's paradise admin tools like DayZ Server Control Centre? Who needs hacks with that? Individual starting loadout editor, addition of items to player inventories, vehicle spawning ... oh and the piece de resistance?

A real time map showing the positions of players, vehicles, deployables and crash sites (when it works properly) ... WTF? why the hell is that a required admin tool?

It's not required, it just makes providing a fair, hacker free play environment that much easier. Things like teleporting and ESP are pretty easy to pick up when you're watching a live map.

I've played quite a bit on public servers lately, and I've yet to see a hacker.

Public/private means nothing anymore, it's all about finding a server with good admins. Just today on a public hive server, I was teleported and instantly teleported back, then someone got banned for hacking. You don't need to go to a private hive or whitelisted server for good protection. It might take you some time to find a good server, but they're out there.

I only play on private hives with active admins and I have to say there has been a dramatic drop in skiddies in the last couple of months

I have seen only one skiddie on a private hive. Otherwise it has been clean.

And on top of that, I just played for the first time in a long time, it did some sort of script-check before I entered the game. It said "No bad content was found" and let me continue.
