Night Fog and lighting effects

Take a look at the Breaking point mod. It looks fantastic at night with the fog and lights, very creepy.

I was trying to go cold turkey and not play Dayz anymore until the standalone was released, but watching a few breaking point videos, I might just have to indulge.

In normal Dayz as it is now, night time is usually avoided because it is just too dark to be able to get around. Found myself logging off as night fell. With ambient fog and lighting it makes for a very creepy experience at night.

Hi Big_T,

That looks absolutely fantastic atmosphere wise.

I don't know but it looks simillar to the "fog/mist" addon for ARMA2 by Rockhount, it might not be though. I've used it in a few test scenarios for my WIP island objects and it looks amazing.

I've always been planning to add something like this all along, so happy to see some people are loving this effect..!

Imagine it in ARMA3..!? :)

It would be nice if night time started to look better because right now its kind of dull. Good idea.

On a clear night, with no moon (new moon), it is still fairly easy to see where you are going. Whereas in ArmA 2 it would be completely pitch black. Nights definitely need some needed work done on them.

I do like the idea of dynamic fog rolling through every now and then. That would really set in a creepy, nerve-racking atmosphere.

Ohhh Man in Arma 3?? I already love walking or driving around the towns in Stratis at night time. With fog and creepiness, it would be epic !!

Old news.. been posted about and they are pretty big post.. see my sig... It's prob where beraking point dev got the idea from and rocket has talked about them in little Q&A, videos blogs or little bits here and there.. i forget.

The lighting system have to be re-build form scratch (too many light glitch). I hope and I guess that the dev team will work on it and make everything more real.

It's black in the dark, no question. But in moon lit nights you can see better without NVG as long as it isn't pitch black like in the woods where light doesn't get through to the ground. Even NVGs can't see in complete darkness without IR light.

I think it can, Breaking point seems to run fine with the fog. I guess one thing to keep in mind is that the fog greatly lessens the draw/view distance, so maybe that compensates by rendering less details overall?

I can definitely appreciate the added realism. Obviously the fog creates a more ominous setting and defiintely more chances for suddenly running up to zombies (let alone other survivors).

It also takes away the 100% advantage that the sniper has up in the bushes in the trees 500 meters (or more) away.

If the computers won't slow down to a snail's pace because of the additional particle effects, then it is a no-brainer.

One of the drawbacks is for new players who lack the knowlege base of the city layout of enterable buildings. The diminished distance that a player can see means lots of stumbling around buildings not knowing if they can be looted. But that would be the case anyway for a new survivor.

Oh yeah and i forgot...what stops the players from avoiding fog/day fog/night servers like they do now? It's basically the same..."no visibility".

A nice feature which will likely be frowned upon by softcore players.
