Help! I can't aim or fire!

So...

I finally built a decent gaming computer and downloaded arma 2 and dayz - pumped - loaded arma 2 boot camp, practiced shooting, driving, etc... Anticipation built...

Loaded dayz for the first time - ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!!

Ran around a bit and decided to make sure I still remember all of the controls - aim down sights, ok, um *right click* -nothing- *right click* -nothing-

Hmm...check the in game controls, yep, I'm doing it right... *right click* nothing *hold down right mouse button* -zooms in correctly- ...odd...

*left click* -nothing- Checks full mag in pistol to be sure, and yep, everything should work...fire!! *left click* -nothing-

AAAAARRRRRGGGG!!!

I feel like Charlie Brown - I've even restarted the game a few times and tried different servers, but the same problem over and over again... HELP!

Drop the gun and pick it back up. This is a glitch with custom starter gear.

Loading up the game to try it now - thanks for the advice, here's to hoping that fixes everything, lol!

better solution than that guys would be to hit f then hit the reload button, that fixes it.

usally happens when server starting gear consist of a handgun.

I thought putting it in your backpack and taking it out fixes it

Sometimes when you spawn, the weapon in your hand isn't selected. As it's been suggested,hitting F selects the weapon (or other things that can be used, like empty cans or smoke nades.)
