survivalist 19 Posted May 10, 2012 Similarily one can say server owners can do what they please with their server, I'm sure. If you want to change fog, rent a server.Likewise, someone else can say - this isn't a carebear game, just adapt to what's happening ingame, and deal with it, because all these threads are starting to sound like theres a small segment of players that are either incapable of adapting to the circumstances, or failing to enjoy themselves. phisher34 12 Posted May 10, 2012 I think server admins aren't choosing to implement the fog at this level. It is a byproduct of the map settings. Much like how night-time used to be completely pitch black.I am not calling out server admins thinking they are trying to alter the game. Just that they should look at their map settings and tone down the fog.
boneboys 7988 Posted May 10, 2012 I believe the fog/draw distance in daytime is good for game-play but and there is always a but, I've not seen the stars since the change was implemented. How can I find my directions if I can not see the stars.OK, I was in the Scouts and most night times I can see the Moooon, in game.Even with a compass and map + watch, I want "stary stary nights.Thanks. Raven_2012 0 Posted May 10, 2012 I love the early morning fog, around like 5am or 6am. I make raids on towns and I don't have to worry about someone at a distance spotting me and sniping me. I don't like when the fog stays all day and it is that heavy fog. I would like to use my binoculars to spot at high distances an area where I think a sniper might be and if I was that sniper I would like to have a good field of view to use that sniper rifle also. It then becomes a game of who spots who first, then either player can make the kill. One other weather thing that bothers me, is the intense rain. I've played arma II a lot and a very few servers added extra rain. The ran is so bad a player can't see a few feet ahead. If it is night, a player won't see at all, then they are forced to stop what they are doing and stay put till ran stops. It's not all servers, but when you get on them after trying for 20 some minutes, you just want to play. Don't get me wrong I like the intense rain, it add realism and makes a player have to camp out for a while. So I like it and don't like it, lol.
Jaleno 4 Posted May 10, 2012 I disagree with the OP, fog adds atmosphere into the game. Not only does it eliminate griefing snipers, it adds a whole level to zombie apocalypse. Traveling in cities is 10x scarier due to the fear of the unknown, you really don't know what is out there..
firebear 11 Posted May 10, 2012 biggest problem IMO is that the fog is so ugly and unrealistic.to begin with, as you already pointed out, the fog is unrealistic and appears in weatherconditions where we would normally never see fog.secondly, the fog doesnt look like fog at all, just like faded out drawdistance.fog should be thicker closer to the ground and fade up. This means we should have a lot farther view distance higher up and view distance would be smaller towards the ground.i personally think the fog just look like a forced small viewdistance, it doesnt look like a fog at all. super pretendo 2 Posted May 10, 2012 So yeah, the consensus is overwhelmingly that the very low view distance cap needs to be removed.Has anyone noticed that when you look into a forest's treeline, it looks like just one layer of trees with a white background? it's really ugly and the view distance needs to go back to at least 1500m
daedrick 90 Posted May 10, 2012 I agree the artificial fog is terribly ugly and doesn't had anything to the game. You have that guy who said it add fear of the unknown, I call bullshit. It removed fear of the snipers to add fear of the unknown, yeah right. Im not a bandit, Im no a sniper either, but one of the great feature of arma ll is the engine which let you see very far.I simply dont play on server with that fog, I find it very ugly and immersion breaking. The problem with ''snipers'' is that their shity ass rifle is too accurate and have some kind of terribly effective scope. What kind of paysant could afford to put a 3000$ scope on his hunting rifle. But anyway, if you get sniper from 1k, then too bad for you, because that guy is really good at spotting/sniping and he deserved the kill.Thats why I crawl in villages and sprint in tree lines and thats why I have yet to die on my last character. Why not reduce the spawn rate of hunting rifles before trying this completly tasteless solution? Or reducing their accuracy/scope range? Thats called fixing the problem at the root. The over abondance of the hunting rifle is the first and foremost problem, if theres any, related to ''snipers'' griefing.
phisher34 12 Posted May 10, 2012 I definitely agree that I have never had a problem with snipers before fog but crawling through towns and staying to trees when in the country. The fog as an artificial 'fear' mechanic is a terrible idea, but I still think it's just that the server admins have never bothered to tweak it back and it's on the default settings or something. phisher34 12 Posted May 11, 2012 Playing last night with a few friends. We had to go through over a dozen servers to find one that didn't have fog limiting view distance below or at 500m.
