oh crashed helicopter, how you tease me with bad loot

I was playing on a server last right after a successful run at the nwaf snatching myself a aks-74u (so no sight saddly), a m9 and some food. I was running back to cherno (forgot when you get a ride there its a looong way back), I was running south western when much to my delight I see a smoking helicopter which I immediatly recognized as a crash. I approach it chucking a red smoke grenade to move the zombies away and go to loot it, however much to my disappoitment this what was there ( i was first one to reach it because it was recently spawned).

and that's it. The worst helicopter crash loot I have ever seen (even in youtube videos and such since there wasn't even a weapon) the only good thing that came out of it was I got some morephine and bandages (grabbed a epi pen or 2) but nothing else there was of use ;_;

was the box full or raided already? cus chances are a heli crash thats not found within the first hours or so of a server restart will have already been found raided and raped for anything nice

no the box was full 100% I was first one to find it there were enough zeds and the smoke was still going to know that no one else have touched it or even saw it.

So what are the tell tail signs visually of fresh crash? All the ones i have seen have been burning with smoke, does this change over time? Im pretty sure most of the ones i've been to have been partially looted before me but is there a way to know other than the loot itself such as the zombie count etc?

Enough M1014s to outfit a rebellion, 5 DMRs, an NV FN FAL, SVD Camo (No mags Q.Q), and an M107 with 1 mag. Found within two square kilometers.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and fuck the new zombie spawn mechanic. I hid in a bush and went to take a leak near a crash site, came back to several DOZEN zombies milling about.

Two camo svds with ammo plus spare ammo on one side of a heli, two fn fals and ammo on the other side. All lost when someone stole my awesome racing tractor and then script killed by vietnam hack with my remaining svd.

And if you cant get under it zoom the centre section and you can still get a marker on whats underneth. Last crash site i found was on sahrani - 2 g36k camos, 1 normal svd with one mag

THIS, i waited and then carefully, painsteakingly crawled and rolled between 5-6 zombies, got like 10 metres away from the heli and another 7 just magically appeared right next to the helli and started walking towards me....ffs.

hehe I throw smoke usually rather then shoot at them and loot as quickly and covertly as possible

Bad luck, sir, bad luck. I found 5 SVD camos and camo clothing at a single crash site last week...

As I had a ghillie and a DMR already, I left it all.

On the other hand I once found a crash site with only medical loot. 6 spawns of medical loot...

Luck of the draw I guess.

could be worse. i found three empty tin cans on one side, and two bandages on the other side. couldnt interact with the internal inventory.

but im not complaining, found three SVD Camos + Ammo and a Ghillie on another crash site just hours before.

i hatchet them all before approaching the chopper.. you never know when a pilot drops them NVGs

I've also noticed on 1.7.5.1 and up crash sites that some of the rarer weapons tend to spawn a few meters out from the helicopter itself. In tall grass that makes it really hard to find them, and some of the newer camo weapons really blend in.

I found a fresh crash this morning just south of NWAF. Swapped out my AKM for an M14 AIM and a silenced M4 HOLO for when I need to use my indoor voice. Plus some morphine. I was pretty psyched I wouldn't have to risk a dangerous raid to NWAF, Cherno or Electro for more weapons and medical supplies. Now to find some people to kill.
