Arma 2 or Arma 3?

Recommended Posts

I want to start playing the ArmA games. Since I know so little (I am a BF3 and MW2 player) about these games I would like some help from the pros.

Which game should I buy if I want a good experience and play some DayZ?

Arma 2 is much cheaper from Steam, but is Arma 3 better? Which should I chose?

If you want to play DayZ mod then ARMA 2. If you just want to play ARMA then ARMA 3.

Well, you can only play DayZ with Arma2 as it's a mod for that game. If it's purely Arma you're interested in then Arma3 is showing some massive improvements but it's still in alpha so you'll have to wait a while for the final game.

IMO Arma2 CO is a bit of a bargain. You get 2 complete games plus access to all of the mods (including DayZ) made for them.

Play Arma 2. DayZ is a Mod of Arma 2, so it only makes sense to play that one. Arma 3 is currently in the alpha stage, for some background experience you should start with Arma 2, then slowly ween yourself onto Arma 3. They are both excellent games mate, but if you're only looking to play DayZ then hit up Arma 2.

With the complete collection you get a shed load of content. Just as a heads up, play the Arma tutorials first before trying DayZ. it'll help you get to grips with the basics of control ect without the annoyance of people trying to kill you. They're good fun too.

didn't make that clear so if you are only in for DayZ,

imho, neither

wait for DayZ SA

from what i can say now, once i play SA, i don't see any reason why i'd ever look back to the mod.

So if you can wait, spare the money and maybe upgrade your pc if needed ;)

if you also plan to take a go at Arma, it depends what you expect - of course Arma 3 will have more features than Arma 2, but

Arma 2 has been patched for a bunch of years and with the help of DayZ eventually became really playable.

i am playing Arma 3 already and its still quite glitchy, as to be expected with an alpha release. so expect issues down that way.

People buying Arma 3 can give out 3 codes each to invite players, so if you know someone ask before shelling out the money,

though if you buy now it will be cheaper then for the full release.

The responses to this post show just what a great community this is.

So long as I get in before the trolling begins...

As an extra bit of advice, go for DayZ Commander, it's a good interface to access to all the maps/content available.

No confirmed release dates for Arma3 but it's coming along nicely so later this year hopefully. DayZ will officially never be a part of Arma3 but I'm sure other modders will release similar mods, some already have. The DayZ SA (not a mod, a full game) is the full release of DayZ that will also hopefully be released some time later in the year.

Oh, BTW read/watch this DAYZ SA blog when you get time. That's where the devs post all info on the progress of the SA.

Oh man, I`ll tell you about another aspect of DayZ as it is now. You might think it`s all green and you will make a lot of friends, but rest assured you will not be done with the hellish dynamics of the mod just because someone teleported to the tent you have been stocking with the best weapons for 3 weeks and raided everything. Oh no. Thats just human lack of imagination doing that. Just wait until you get that first feeling of belonging somewhere in the game, and you`d best start bracing because you are about to be beaten dry of air dude.. again and again until you get to the point you want to punish everyone talking about... DayZ... and stuff.

Oh and Fleksnes. Some people might say that the game ain`t good before you smell the burning powder. Well get ready to feel the true stench of crap from another guy farting on everything you think the game can be. Might as well have bought the Arma 3-alpha man. That would save you the bellyache you get from being let down by something your brain tricks you into believing is some "hidden sanctuary on the internet"

Mate, just because you seem a tad butthurt don't try and ruin other peoples fun. You've added nothing to this thread apart from telling us you're pissed of. Cool, we understand now. Cheers.

Regarding finding somewhere safe to play (free from hackers) we can help with that too when the OP is ready. If you jump into random servers without doing a quick bit of research it'll end in tears (as above).

Ok, no sorry you`re right dude. I would not like reading the things I wrote as a response to one of my own threads. The mod is a lot of fun, and you will meet a lot of heartless thugs trying to make you trust them. All the seven deadly sins comes free with DayZ.
