Just to clarify...(installation q.)

I'm installing Arma II and Operation Arrowhead (not the combined ops version of the game) via Steam. Afterwards, and after running both games once, I'm planning on downloading DayZ Commander to install and update the mod. Is that all I'm going to have to do, or will I have to fumble with Arma II Beta patches as well?

Oh, and I'm running a 64-bit OS (Windows 7). Won't be a problem, will it?

The beta patch is available through DayZCommander though, so should be fine.

That's all ya need. Make sure to first make sure to install the latest DayZCommander update, THEN the latest Beta patch via DayZCommander, Then the vanilla DayZ, THEN whatever maps you're interested in.

Check out a whitelisted server with a good reputation to avoid hackers. For your first time playing stick with the Chenarus map. Its the original DayZ map and the one you should cut your teeth on.
