soux 10 Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) In the upcoming standalone I would love to see a lot more variation for looting experience in DayZ. I feel like it would be fun to add difficulty into looting, 'cause this could encourage more cooperation with other survivors and if not, it still would make the experience more memorable.First off how about having some front doors of houses or some shelves inside the houses being locked? This would bring a lot use to the tools we have ingame such as the axe or the crowbar. As you would have to break the front door with your axe, for instance, you obviously make a lot of noise and thus you would first consider whether it is even worth breaking in. The noise might of course attract the attention of some nearby zeds and/or survivors. How about having a zombie waiting for you behind a locked door? The previous owner, perhaps? You could also have some barricaded parts inside the house, as leftover signs of people trying to defend themselves when the apocalypse started. For cooperation we could think of the hospital loot, for example. If the loot was behind locked doors, and if these doors would require something to break that is hard to acquire, it would promote cooperation, as in everyone needs those supplies.Secondly, currently very few even bother using the flashlight as it only points out your location to other players at night. To actually have some use for the flashlight, thinking about the houses and looting experience: Why is it always so bright inside? Could we have some dark interiors, which would force you to use flashlight to actually see something? Although the house might have some windows and such, but thinking back to when the apocalypse could have happened and especially in times of crises, many do close the curtains, thus the inside of the house could be dark as you get in.When you break inside the hospital loot, the medicine and supplies would probably be stored inside a cold, dark room. Having that flashlight could come in handy.Even the whole thing of just breaking inside to the hospital storage could be kind of thought as an ingame event, right? Xucphra 453 Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) In the upcoming standalone I would love to see a lot more variation for looting experience in DayZ. I feel like it would be fun to add difficulty into looting, 'cause this could encourage more cooperation with other survivors and if not, it still would make the experience more memorable.I thought they were already doing this by moving the items to various spots in houses, including cabinets, counters, under furniture, etc.First off how about having some front doors of houses or some shelves inside the houses being locked? This would bring a lot use to the tools we have ingame such as the axe or the crowbar. You could also have some barricaded parts inside the house, as leftover signs of people trying to defend themselves when the apocalypse started. They have been working on making houses look more "post-apocalyptic". I don't personally see the need for locking doors and cabinets in houses. Any average sized man could kick a normal front door in without making an extraordinary amount of noise, and I don't know anybody who locks all the cabinets in their kitchen. For cooperation we could think of the hospital loot, for example. If the loot was behind locked doors, and if these doors would require something to break that is hard to acquire, it would promote cooperation, as in everyone needs those supplies.Well, you do already need some kind of weapon to break the glass in front of every hospital. Beyond that, you need to go into the cities full of zombies and bandits to get medical supplies, I think that's enough effort put forth.I don't understand how making something hard to acquire necessarily promotes cooperation. People tend to get shot fighting over rare and difficult-to-obtain things.Secondly, currently very few even bother using the flashlight as it only points out your location to other players at night. At night, it's quite dark in houses, so don't understand what you mean. Every house you enter would have to be boarded up pretty damn well for no light to get in.When you break inside the hospital loot, the medicine and supplies would probably be stored inside a cold, dark room. Having that flashlight could come in handy.Maybe. I think the flashlight does exactly what it's supposed to do. It's just another tool that could be detrimental if used in the wrong way. Do guns need more uses because they make loud noises?Even the whole thing of just breaking inside to the hospital storage could be kind of thought as an ingame event, right? What do you mean by "ingame event"? Like an mmo type thing? Or were you referring to the adventurous aspect of having to break into a hospital? My opinion. TIC 1050 Posted March 30, 2013 (edited) How about finding some loot inside trash cans/dumpsters? Something like leftover food that could cause a serious sickness if the risk is taken for it.Or even vending machines that you can break and could drop all bunch of goodies :)Edit: What's been confirmed is items will be more hidden inside houses (Like under beds, cupboards, etc) and have items inside destroyed vehicles.
