Haplap 0 Posted March 28, 2013 Whenever i gotta go take a plunge into the water in dayz, and my character starts doing breaststroke for about 5 minutes, and then slows down to the pace of a five year old swimming for the first time, i wanna cry. Pretty much every person who knows how to swim is able to do freestyle, which is much faster than breaststroke. The survivors in Dayz can run 10 Kilometers in a day and not even be winded, but when you go for a five minute swim, he gets exhausted faster than my grandma in a pool. Survivors should freestyle instead of breaststroke and should not get exhausted in around a minute in the water. If you do not understand the terms 'breaststroke' or 'freestyle', or don't know what they look like, there's a magical thing called Google. :)

Xucphra 453 Posted March 28, 2013 I'm assuming they're going to improve speed/animations for swimming in the standalone in a way similar to Arma 3.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted March 28, 2013 mZLY nailed it. You won't be swimming at all with possible a hundred or two pounds of gear. If you do manage to swim it will a hell of a challenge.
timboski 618 Posted March 28, 2013 I just put 'breaststroke' into google images in work. Thanks a lot mate now I'm in trouble >:(Seriously though it would be good to have a reasonably realistic weight/fatigue system. I would like to think if I had just a makarov and and a can beans I would run/swim a bit faster than someone carrying half a junkyard and gun shop.
Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted March 28, 2013 I perform the breast stroke on my overweight boyfriend has not improved my swiming
pEar (DayZ) 26 Posted April 13, 2013 @mZLY - try running around for a full day, fully geared up with multiple weapons and a backpack ++ - then come back and tell us how it went. It is the exact same principle, no-one has the stamina like the DayZ characters. Maybe making it so that running also requires stamina to a realistic extent, like whilst swimming
lipemr 160 Posted April 13, 2013 Go and try swimming fully clothed with a backpack full of weapons and survival gear and then come back and tell us how you got on. :)go run with the same equipment... see where his point is?
Mos1ey 6301 Posted April 14, 2013 Double tapping W does use stamina, you slow down massively after a minute or so.
djzombie 22 Posted April 14, 2013 still, no one can run with a full pack of gear consistently for days at a time without getting winded even at the "jogging" speed that doesn't use stamina.Swimming speed(just like being able to run for incredible distances and never getting tired) is one of those compromises that needs to be made for fun. I'd rather not take an hour to swim across a pond.If they don't change swimming speed then they at least need to modify running so that you get tired and slow down even jogging. lipemr 160 Posted April 14, 2013 Double tapping W does use stamina, you slow down massively after a minute or so.a normal guy wouldnt be able to run 15 seconds with all the gear, the backpack and the weapon, even walking would be a pain in the ass.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted April 14, 2013 That's impossible you know...all those spec ops swim with tons of gear and weapons every day and they never get tired... ;)I think you'll find that they carry a small SMG, maybe a sidearm and 2 or 3 mags, not an AS50 with 5 mags and an M240 with 2 box mags in their backpack, lol.a normal guy wouldnt be able to run 15 seconds with all the gear, the backpack and the weapon, even walking would be a pain in the ass.Every detail doesn't have to be 100% realistic as long as it's representative enough of real life situations to be immersive. :)
