-Thanatos- 0 Posted March 27, 2013 I'm a very new player to Dayz. I started playing today as of Tuesday, March 26, 2013. I will be checking back at this topic frequently, so please don't feel discouraged to post even if it's a few days after this post. Anyways, here's my problem.I've heard of a very effective method that a lot of people have been using with ArmA 2's config file located at C:\Documents\ArmA 2.The method is to simply change the values from...GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1000;GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=3;to...GPU_MaxFramesAhead=1;GPU_DetectedFramesAhead=1;...And that's exactly what I did. However, it gave me absolutely no fps boost. I have a GTX 560 Ti with the latest driver version. I went to Nvidia's control panel and selected Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames to 1. I launched the game and there was no fps changes, I changed the value to 4 for the next attempt, but still no fps changes. The Maximum Pre-Rendered Frames setting has "Use the 3D Application Setting" option and values 1-4. There is no "0" for this setting (been removed long time ago). So, unless I'm doing something wrong....I don't know. I'm just so confused and want to play so bad. It's the whole reason why I bought ArmA 2: Combined Operations. Here are my system specs:Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghzNvidia Gtx 560 Ti5GB of RAMWindows 7HALP
Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted March 27, 2013 Maybe it doesn't always work, I dunno.I just posted to warn you to not attempt getting an "FPS Booster" via a download off the internet, whatsoever. They're just viruses/hacks that'll fuck up your computer and/or get you global banned.
-Thanatos- 0 Posted March 27, 2013 Thanks a bunch for the heads up, Welch! Now, does anyone have a solution for my fps problem?
ActionManZlt 160 Posted March 27, 2013 The maxframesahead setting isn't a magic fix. It only fixes some cases where the CPU is working too hard queueing up several frames for rendering while the GPU is being overwhelmed with work.Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 2.4ghzThat's your problem. I have the same CPU. It sucks for DayZ...Quick all the background applications that you can. Overclock the CPU if you can.Buy a new CPU if you can...Play on low-population servers with low zombie counts...Try using the launch options / command line arguments of "-maxVRAM=1024 -nobenchmark -nosplash -skipIntro -cpuCount=4 -exthreads=3 -malloc=system"Post up your graphical settings -- some of them when set to Low actually increase the CPU workload while decreasing the GPU workload. You've got a good GPU so you should be able to handle most settings on High.
Charb 298 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) you don't mention at any point what your FPS is currenty...I have a Q6600 and I have done some retarded research on the chip.If i recall correctly... the 560 is probably bottlenecked by the CPU. I'm saying this because i recall reading several threads about people with Q6600 chipsets and that sounds appropiate. There are a few ways to determine this, It has to do with monitoring GPU and CPU usage.there are only a handful of liquid coolers still around that support a LGA 775 Socket, might be wise to pick up one of these while you can. Also look into your motherboard to see the possibility to overclock. You might have to consider overclocking to 3.0 or maybe 3.2Ghz to resolve the bottleneck if it is the CPU (which again... probably is)(Edit) I run around with 22FPS with a 8800GTX and my graphics are set fairly high with a bit of tweaking. It is definitely playable, sometime next week i'm going to OC the crap out of this to 3.6ghz when i get my cooler and new video card. -Thanatos- 0 Posted March 27, 2013 Actionman, it's done something weird to my game. There was ocean water clipping through my screen and I was getting around 200-250 fps, but it looked really bad. I also joined a game and the fps was even worse, around 15-20. So, I undid all the launch commands.Charb, I get around 20-30 fps on high-ish settings, 1920x1080 resolution and 3D resolution.. Some of the settings I set on high barely impact fps than it was set to low. I'm guessing this is called a bottleneck. I'm not gonna overclock my cpu for safety reasons. My processor and motherboard are around 6-7 years old, and I dont have a liquid cooler system.I guess I'm doomed lol. Anyways, thank you all for your help.:*(... Charb 298 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Over-clocking can be a scary thing. trust me. I remember when you had to have a degree in plumbing to setup a liquid cooler !!! now they are all self-contained. The point of overclocking is to extend the life of your older generation equipment. I know the thought of your entire computer dying is a fear, but if you are going to upgrade at some point in 1-2 years, a $60 water cooler will be your best friend in that time. Just something to consider is all. I'm going to post my results next week when i get my stuff with full comparison of benchmarks and other fun things.besides... a 3.0 overclock would be achieveable on air cooling depending on the setup.
