Install help please

I just downloaded and install arma 2 and the OA expansion with the OA beta version. I open all three up and allowed battle eye to install each time. I just finished downloading dayZ off of steam. After I install it what do I need to do to finish it so I can play?

Have you watched any youtube guides? I suggest one for updating the patches (there are beta patches and mod updates too.) Look for something like "How to install dayz" I'm sure there are links in the sticky threads here - do have a good search.

Okay, I can't find these expansion packs that have the word lite after them. Like the british armed forces lite pack.

Run Arma 2 and OA at least one until the menu screen, download DayZcommander and install the latest Arma beta patch and DayZ mod. Fingers crossed and Bobs ya uncle you should be good to go. For vanilla DayZ you don't need the British Forces lite as far as im aware. :)

Okay, I got into a game with the commander software. Here is my new problem. I looked over the commands but I can't change, use my weapon.

This is just a glitch, either change to a new weapon, axe or press F. One should work, oh silly question but you do actually have a gun right?

The server I joined started me with a sidearm and an axe. I tried switching weapons but that button didn't seem to work. Will try it again. Thank you so much for your help.

I still don't know what I'm doing wrong. I placed everything in the backpack that I got when I started on the server. When I click the right arrow in my backpack to equip the axe it goes into the lower part of my inventory on the ride side but I can't get it to equip as a weapon or drawl it out. Same with sidearm.

Okay - I don't know what you're currently doing with the axe but I'll explain how it works.

The axe is both a weapon (Main slot) and a tool (Toolbelt).

If you right click on the weapon while it is in your toolbelt you get the option to equip it, do so - you will then need to press 'R' when you go back into the game to 'reload' the hatchet so you can use it.

If you want to change to your pistol, use the scroll wheel and select the secondary weapon.

The steam dayz is pretty glitchy. I used it and had a lot of problems. I would just use commander it is better anyway since steam dayz uses the arma server browser which isn't as good as the commander browser.

Also, if you want to learn the basic controls then the play the arma tutorial since arma and dayz use the same controls.

I figured it out. I thought remove from whatever command would delete the item but it places it in my hands. Now to figure out how to cook raw meat as I can't eat it raw and to stop getting broken bones from zombies. :) :) :)
