Why is DayZMod still marked as "Alpha"?

Recommended Posts

Silly. DayZ MOD is worked on by Community Developers, completely separate to the people working on the Stand Alone.

I know that. But it wasn't always that way, was it? That's why there's less updates, because there's less man-power.

The mod development will be continued alongside the standalone so no, it's not really anywhere near 'finished'.

There are many games that are progressing with new content and features that have been 'live' for years. Eve has been live for 10 years I think.

It's a travesty that it's still classed as alpha. The mod is being played by 99% of people as a proper 'live' game and people are paying hard cash to provider servers. Only the developers and forums mods view it as an alpha.....

The game is still buggy and unpolished as all fuck, so every player should be aware that it's an "alpha" and not a final product.

Whenever anyone complains about bugs or any of the endless non-user-friendly features, the instant (and correct) response is "you're playing an alpha, report the bug and get used to it".

DayZ as a huge gaming phenomenon was an accident. Bohemia never planned on making DayZ at all, and rocket never planned on becoming famous for it. It was a shitty little hobby mod, that happened to be in the right place at the right time to become popular.

Just because 1 million of us downloaded this little experiment that was only originally aimed at <100 people, that doesn't give us the right to expect it to be a real 'live' game all of a sudden. The fact remains that it's still incomplete and experimental.

Bravo, ActionMan, the greatest hero of 'em all.

It's abit of both Alpha and Beta, but simply just a WIP. I think keeping it Alpha helps to keep peoples expectations low. You call it a Beta and people would get mad that it doesn't work better than it does.

It's still an alpha probably because the alpha isn't out yet. The alpha has added so many new features to the game, this just updates minor things in the mod. So why would we call it anything else if it's not even as good as the alpha? It's still a mod.

It's not a game, it's a mod. And most bugs can't be fixed anyway. Why mark it as Alpha when it won't get better? You can still support your product when it's not in Alpha. Alpha just makes people think wrong things! Btw. Am I the only one with the forum post issue? I can't seem to switch to another row >:( Edited by TSAndrey

It's nowhere near feature complete = alpha.

They're fixing old bugs in every new build. You don't have to reload the hatchet any more, for example. :S

I was always under the impression the Mod was going to be the testing bed for the SA (Dunno why, perhaps that was the plan)

All of a sudden the Mod was handed over to the community (A good thing in my eyes) and went it's own seperate way while adding beneficial things into the Mod and SA. Engine was overhauled and re-made for the SA and the SA is going down a seperate path all of a sudden with (What seems to me) no correlation to the Mod.

Lets be honest most of the SA content is still top secret, So i wonder what from the Mod has not been added because of the SA secrecy?

Boiling water, different types of meat, infection from drinking dirty water, zombies attacking vehicles, backpack tweaks.

Development hasn't stopped, and bugs are still being fixed. Not sure what the OP is going on about.

It's been in Alpha for almost a year now, if it's not going to become Beta soon, it will never. What kind of new features can we expect anyway? Maybe dogs and some new models...

It never will become Beta there isn't any point with the SA coming out. I don't understand why you care about the distinction between Alpha and Beta builds for the mod.

There is no 'finished' product. Since 1.7.4 it's only been minor changes or small additions - I'm still wondering what the use is for a fucking Razor or Toilet Rolls.

Razor: Shaving your face

Toilet paper : to blotch up the cuts you make with the crappy razor you found on a barn floor.

Why does it matter how long they're in alpha? It's a community driven mod. As long as they're still working on it, I could care less what stage they're in.

Also, when did the community take over the mod? December? So that's about 3 months that the community developed DayZ mod has been in alpha. You have to keep in mind that Rocket and company aren't working on it anymore, so you can't just add on the time he was doing nothing and call it development time.

It just seems like you want them to stop adding new things because that will free them up to fix all the bugs you hate so much. Because you feel like there is nothing new to add to the mod. I'm sorry but I feel differently.
