Rules of DayZ:

No Hacking.

If it moves, Shoot it

If it breaths, Shoot it

Is that a tree? No problem. Shoot it.

Is there a guy in the field with a ghille? I don't know. Shoot the entire field.

Car? Shoot it

Heli? Shoot it

Also, no hacking.

Those are the official DayZ rules. So we shoot unarmed bambis only to follow the rules

Haha. This is not my mentality in the game and I play as friendly but for a life or two I am just going to shoot at EVERYTHING. Especially fields and trees.

When I see another player, if they don't have a bandit skin I salute.

If it is a person with a bandit skin, I either run or try to communicate via direct chat.

If I'm fired upon I usually run. If escape is not possible I fire. If person is still alive after being shot and is unconscious, i flee. I don't finish them off.

... and that policy had led to my death many many times.

But, as Dale said on The Walking Dead-

"This world, what it is now, this is where you belong. And I may not have what it takes to last for long, but that's okay. 'Cause at least I can say when the world goes to s***, I didn't let it take me down with it."

I never shoot unarmed people, and i rarely shoot armed people too. Why?...Im playing this role as a Istillhavefaithinhumans medic, and i dont have nerves,so I like to sneak up to people, watch em and maybe patch em up.

I play nice,a helper rather than a bandit badass, and too my surprise,i dont get killed often.

People dont have a contract on my head, I spread the Love, not the Infection

Im not dissing the bandits,we need them, but im a man of honor,so i find no joy in killing unarmed or innocent players. Thats the way I have choosed to play.

You can play Dayz in a 1000 different ways, theres no wrong or right way to play...you decide.

EDIT:

So i voted "Other reason"

Never shoot unless I have to.

I used to shoot bandits on sight, but they really don't qualify as humans, they are just like armed zombies, only slightly more retarded. If I see another survivor, I take cover and tell him, I'm friendly and tell him to please not to point his weapon in my direction. People generally react well to this, because I'm not commanding them to do anything, I wouldn't do myself. I'm not telling them to disarm and place themselves completely at my mercy or render themselves utterly defenseless, if another player comes by. I just find a position, where I demonstrate, I can't easily shoot them and they can't easily shoot me. Whenever player realize, they are not in imminent danger of being shot, they seem more relaxed and easier to talk with in direct.

Whenever I meet another friendly player, who simply turns him back at me, saying "friendly, friendly," I usually leave as quickly as possible, because if he's so reckless about his own security, his recklessness will probably get me killed, if I hang around him.

I never shoot unarmed people. Actually I barely ever shoot at all. I walk around with a hatchet to off zombies silently.

But I gave up helping people I don't know. I saw a guy running away from a group of zombies, obviously unarmed and just spawned. I had a hatchet so I asked him to wait a second so I could finish them off for him. He thanked me, asked me to follow him and the next chance he found his own hatchet he rammed it into my back. Never. Again. I didn't even have anything with me except starting loadout and the hatchet.

Now I just tend to sneak and observe. If I see a player, armed or unarmed, I just watch him out of some bush until I'm positive he moved on.

I was shot at several times though while unarmed. Most recent was actually the most screwed-up. My friend and me were standing in a forest with two jeeps we happened to find shortly before. I heard a helicopter so I told him to wait until it passed. Which it did. Then it turned around and opened fire. My friend was shot, I took one car and drove. That helicopter, with at least three or four people on it, followed me, shot down the car until I had to leave it, crawling away bleeding. They still chased me but apparently had problems finding me. They even dropped one or two guys to hunt me down on foot. So there I was, armed with a hatchet, blood next to nothing, seeing next to nothing and ultimately logging out. And I don't see this as combat logging. This was no combat. This was a freakin' manhunt. Not funny.

I won't shoot unarmed players on sight as, like any other player, I'll watch them a while to see what they're up too.

I won't shoot unarmed players who answer my comms when I bump into them in town or in the woods.

I won't shoot unarmed players who go along with my usual "I'm going to go this way now, you go another way and I won't shoot you. Good luck."

I will shoot unarmed players who approach within pistol range after being requested not to.

I will shoot unarmed players that follow me after being requested not to.

I will shoot unarmed players that I suspect of being hackers.

Shooting players that cannot protect themselves is pathetic and weak and that is my opinion.

Let me hear why you people do it!

I do not. However, once I was in a small town in Chernarus - middle of the AM. I had just found and repaired a HMMWV and it was my first experience with it in DayZ. So I wanted to hold onto it. Anyway, a helicopter hovers overhead - and I have had some awful bad luck with death from above. So I run out of the market, take shelter under the overhang of a small porch. I ask in chat "friendly in the chopper?" No answer and I repeat this again. All I had was an MP5SD. So the chopper lands on the hill by the orchard where I had parked my HMMWV. I figure the guy is going to loot it, steal it or snipe me from above. So I run up the hill, flick the selector to burst, and down the hill comes running another player in a Ghillie Suit. Without a thought, I empty the 30 round mag into his chest, and he is dead.

Unfortunately, the other survivor was unarmed and vowed to hunt me down lol. And that is the only time I have killed an unarmed player in DayZ.

DayZ needs more people like you and I. Not sure if you're a hero, but I pat you on the back regardless.

I was wondering though. Is it possible for a hero/bandit team to work?

Everyone who's ever bloodbagged a buddy is qualified as a hero, and everyone who's ever shot a non-bandit who didn't shoot them first is a qualified bandit. I consider myself to be both a hero and a bandit, and I have neither skin, so the correct term, I suppose, is "survivor".

I've been on plenty of teams with heroes and bandits in them, it's worked out to a greater or lesser extent, and the success is almost never influenced in any measurable way by the skins of the squad members.

Cause I'm a heartless soul. I recently stopped being a Hero, I'm trying a new playstyle, hence why I have that member title.

I like to have fun with them, breaking their legs and watch them crawl but then I liked pulling the legs off of daddy long legs when i was a kid. :)

Yeah. One player in a bandit team just acts as medic and gives a blood bag to the others when they need it.

Cool story about not killing on sight: So a group of friends and I are in cherno after our car hit a wreck and lost a wheel... We saw a fresh spawn with only a M1911 one of my group almost had him in his sights. I told my mate to stand down and we approached the player. He was friendly and said he knew where a wheel was but we had to give him a ride. Long story short we gave him a ride up north which turned out to be his clans base. The clan thanked us and gave us some extra ammo. That day we gained an ally and it has payed off since.

Probably not enough posts, I think you need 700+ but I'm not definite.

Unless said unarmed player is being an inconsolable nuisance, what is the point? Waste of ammo.

I would guess that those who are entertained by it have some kind of real life inadequacy they need to compensate for by feeling big on the internet.

Today i killed 12 players in electro in 15 mins (Most amusing and hilarious sh*t ever), i want to know who was the beast who took me down!? And yeah, its just incredibly fun :D couple of em unarmed.

The server:ES 27

my username was: Makke

started off with just a hatchet, took down a guy, took his winchester and with that took 11 guys down. Most fun i had in a while, had bandit skin so thats my reason,

Also for being mad when i died at northwest airfield with L85A2 Holo in a fight with another player he broke my legs but i managed to kill him and zombies finally killed me.

Well for me personally i'd rather become friends with randoms than shoot them and stay friendless and alone. Sure, you could find a clan. But there's nothing like teaming up with someone you just rescued/got rescued by.

I dont, its lame. But anything from an axe up constitutes some manner of threat, and im jumpy around people on this game....mainlly because they tend to shoot at you no matter what you do or do not do, armed or not.

As a rule I do not shoot unarmed players, nothing to gain, plenty to lose.

If I see a guy with a hatchet however I will shoot holes in him.

F*****g hatchets......
