Xianyu 820 Posted March 17, 2013 So, Rocket says that things can be damaged in the standalone. Shoot someone in the head, and their NVG's might get damaged. The question is... what kinds of damage are we talking about here? Can I theoretically shoot the gun out of a bandit's hands if I have good enough aim? Can I fire a sniper round into his AK and make the AK unusable, thereby rendering the bandit effectively disarmed? Will explosions cause damage to objects? Personally, I'd like to see the 'hide body' mechanic completely removed. I might make a suggestion for that in the suggestion forum. BUT, if it was, it'd be nice to put a grenade on the body and completely destroy any equipment on him. Or fire several rounds of gunfire into the body to make sure that most everything left there is rendered useless. And if items are damaged, there has to be a point where they're 'broken', otherwise what's the point of damage in the first place? So if something gets broken... can it be repaired?I can't find this information anywhere.
Tigger (DayZ) 24 Posted March 17, 2013 My guess is it isn't implemented yet and so you won't get a concrete answer. They may have plans, but plans change once you start to code something potentially so difficult.

I think I recall that Rocket said somewhere that item damage was already implemented... or maybe I'm misremembering.
-Gews- 7443 Posted March 17, 2013 I don't think shooting a gun out of someone's hands would be a very effective tactic. I've seen it done once... on YouTube. Some guy trying to commit suicide and the police sniper shot his gun away. Awesome stuff. As for whether it would disable a gun (in real life), it depends where it hits. There are AKs with bullet holes in the stock, obviously those would keep on working unless the operator was hit as well. Agent Jerry Dove had his 9mm hit by a .223 round in the FBI Miami shootout and it was disabled.

I think it would be more uniform. X gun has y health and loses z health when shot. The question is whether or not this damage would allow something as crazy as literally disarming someone by shooting their gun. I'm a pretty scary shot with a sniper rifle. And I'd love to be able to do this.

It's part of the whole 'weapons as entities' shebang.

I hope it's handled realistically, maybe there could be a certain chance of disabling it but not automatically every time. Here's a pic from Vietnam, this M16 was hit by a 12.7mm DShK round and knocked out of the guy's hands. Luckily he wasn't hit!Stuff like that could shatter stocks, damage internal and external parts and cause jams. Whether the rifle keeps working or not... that depends. I don't think many people have actually tested firing bullets at guns and seeing how much damage it would do, and how often. BearGravy 53 Posted March 17, 2013 Well you can build up a vehicle in the game, and if shot in certain areas it is rendered useless. Sense guns will be customizable (From last I read) then some parts are might get the damage only. Like if just out of a chance of luck someone shot lets say an ACOG, only the ACOG would be useless but the rest of the weapon would work perfectly. That's how I believe Rocket is seeing it, I am pretty sure he has a basic idea of guns and might add it to the game. I am just not so sure if you hit the stock of the gun it makes it useless. I know it doesn't in real life, but the hit boxes could be off because it still is a game.

BSB Jimmy 360 Posted March 17, 2013 i just hope it doesn't end up like the fallout NV item damage.
Wili 156 Posted September 4, 2013 Hi,it would be nice if for example someone has been shot in the knee, the jeans become damaged but the items in the pockets doesn't; if the bullets hits the pocket area then the items inside become damaged. Making all the items inside a jeans damaged when you are shooting near the foots wouldn't be accurate.Same for the shirts, if the shirt receive a bullet in the pockets area the items inside will become damaged, if not only the shirt will become damaged.
