DayZ FPS Issues

Recommended Posts

Alright I will get straight to the point.

So, about half a month ago I was playing DayZ very regularly, getting about 20-30 fps. Now that I just jumped back into DayZ after patch 1.7.6.1 I am getting hardly 11 fps? No matter what I set my graphical settings to, the fps ALWAYS stays at around 10 frames. I researched a ton, spent many hours trying to fix it, got rid of the "splash" crap I was told to by a source, however, nothing seemed to help. I am unsure if it is because of my PC specs so I will list them right here:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 processor 3.21Ghz -- 64 bit OS

Motherboard: Gigabyte Tech. Model #: GA-MA770T-UD3P

Memory: DDR3, Channels # Dual, Ram: 12228 MBytes (12 GB Installed RAM), DC Mode: Unchanged. DRAM Frequency: 669.7MHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT (Not the best, but doesn't make sense in the sudden change in Frame Rate.), Memory: 1024 MBytes -- Bus Width: 256 bits

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are my current specs, not sure if they make a difference, which is why I am posting here. I know there is an explanation somewhere, if you could help me come to understand it so I may fix it, I would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.

That is what I thought too.. Any ideas as to what may be the cause, though?

Unfortunately, if it is a sudden and steady drop in FPS....could be a bad Video card. Try blowing the dust off the card to see if that helps.

I'm not sure this applies, but do you have it set on high-performance mode?

Dayz lags for most people and your specs are not that bad. Sometimes your parts just need cleaning like colekern said. Other than that you should be running DayZ with not much lag. The only thing that it could be is your graphic card.

Actually no, It was not set to High-Performance. It was until I updated my system, assuming it reverted to it's default or something. That does not make any difference, unfortunately. I'll give you the average temperatures of my PC hardware: CPU: 81*c -- Mainboard: 46*c -- Videocard 72*c (does this make a difference? I was told not to worry about GPU temperature until it broke late 85*c early 90*c) Harddisk: 36*c -- Fan Speed: ALWAYS Stays over 5550+ rpm & under 5900 rpm. It would make sense of the GPU was starting to overheat, now that I think about it. Should I clean it, just to make sure? Or is this temperature not necessary, perhaps even vital that I clean it?

Wouldn't make any sense though.. I run all the other games I have at around Medium -- Highest graphical settings. No problems with anything other than DayZ right now. Also, is it possible for internet speed to cause fps drops? (Just wondering)

I am going to clean most of my appliances, seeing if I can't drop those temperatures or get rid of possible blockage. It would seem to be the only reasonable explanation. Kudos to all who helped me, very much appreciated. I will notify you the results after I clean it.

Same problem here. I use to play on Normal or Low settings. I don't have a great gpu or cpu but was easily running it fine with skype up and on low settings a few months ago. I am fine for about 15 seconds then 1 minute i drop too about 3-4 fps...

I did a full system scan for viruses, changed the resolution, cleared HDD space ( i have 224gb out of 496gb available.) even updated my graphics card to no avail. Please tell me if you got yours working JiizzyDragon.

IT'S THE SERVER!!!

You comment about the internet connection made me realize it's the server. Sometimes, server owners stop taking care of their server, and it causes lag for anyone who plays on it. Try launching regular Arma 2, and tell me how it goes.

Perfect. I cleaned it, even replaced the thermal compound. Nice steady temperatures, appears there was some blockage causing it to heat up quickly. It was long overdue anyways. I took into consideration the server issue, launched arma 2 through steam & it worked like a charm. Nice steady 30-40fps just like it should be :)

Baiski, for your situation, server lag shouldn't drop you to near 3-4 frames, try opening your tower and cleaning it a bit. Seems to have worked for me, I also changed servers, just incase.

Thank you for all the support! Very much appreciated. See you all around.

Depends really. I play on various servers with my friends. The most common one we play on has about 125 vehicles all together. But it appears it was just my GPU overheating & was just in need of cleaning. Now I'm back at top performance at about 30-40 fps ^- ^
