So what is the point (besides variety) of having the revolver and M9 in DayZ? The m1911 upgrades from the revolver in every way, and the G17 upgrades from the M9 in every way.

There is no edges to either of those weapons because their better versions exist, and they are the same rarity as their better versions.

At least with a Makarov it has 1 edge and that is that it's ammo spawns everywhere, whereas 1911 or ACP is a little less common.

Because some guns are just better than others and humans like variety. Personally I'd take a revolver over a 1911 because I can at least hit stuff with it, and zombies need headshots.

The 1911 is the gimped one, in my opinion...

All I know is that I can't hit a barn door with the 1911 and I can make a head shot on a standing target at 50-75m with the revolver.

Reason why or...?

A: I dunno why but im less hesitant with the M9, i seem to shoot a hell of alot more accurately over 50-100m than the G-17.

B: Sounds awesome,

C: the fire rate is just perfect for the gun to drop back to it's original position before i fire again, the G-17 fires too quick for my liking. Yeah spurts a higher rate of fire but at a cost of accuracy and punch.

D: M9 just looks the business, G-17 looks like a toy gun.

They pretty much are, one is silver the other black, speaking in pure theory i guess them 1911 would be better in daytime and the revolver at night, silver blooms in black, black blooms in white/beige

That is not exactly how variables work in this case.

I'm talking about a server with a population. Of course if you're always the first one to a loot spawn, they'll be the same rarity. But, when people are looting before you and see two items that are almost the same, but one is slightly better, they're going to take the better one and leave the lesser. Therefore there's going to be less of the favorable one sitting and more of the less favorable one laying around. Especially since people will swap out the lesser when they find the better.

Dispersion might be the same, but I tried them in the editor and for whatever reason I consistently did much much much better with the revolver, so I prefer the revolver.
